Hi

i am new here, and have installed spiceworks, but cannot get AD to work in portal.

i have read probably every article on this matter

http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/117384-portal-integration-with-ad-not-working?page=1

http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/139195-user-portal-authentication-using-ad-credentials-not-working

etc

i have tried every combination in the user section in portal

user@domain

user

user@domain.com and .local

etc etc

i have installed it before with LDAP setting and it still did not work. so i uninstalled spiceworks and reinstalled.

in people view i can see over all of our AD users.

but i cannot login using mine or their AD credentials.

the local admin one works fine, it just the AD users.

i am testing spiceworks 5.1 (on a virtual machine installed on my laptop SERVER 2008 R2) before i install it on a server.

AD is installed on Win 2003 server.

can anyone help please…

thanks.

2 Spice ups

have exactly the same issue.

anyone? Spiceworks team?

I am on 5.1.67662 and have no issue at all.

Our users log on with just the username portion of the login, no domain qualification and it works fine.

We are on a single domain, single subnet. None of our users are in a separate OU, just at the domain top level.

yep cool, i know it works for some people, but it is not working for me, now i do not know why, i have well tried everything… unless someone can come up with something i have not tried…

i will try ldap settings again, but need help on this, what exactly do i put in, just for reassurance…

or any other ideas?

Aye. I just thought I’d mention how we were set up in case it indicated a difference somewhere.

As for AD config within SW:

Server just has the hostname of the active directory server.

User is the fully domain qualified user name of a user with permission to access AD (in our case thisuser@office.domain.com).

We are not using SSL.

Active Directory is enabled and scans every 30 minutes.

Portal Integration (AD integration with User Portal) is enabled.

If all of the above is configured then it may be worth disabling it. Using the clear button on the Credentials and re-entering them. If the test in yellow gives you the all clear then enable the rest one at a time.

If a user still cannot log in try manually re-scanning them from their Inventory entry.

Just a note: I have an admin account and an AD account. I log into the admin panel using my email address and the portal using my AD username. The other way round does not work.

same setting, us you

in ad credentials:

ad server: server.domain.com

also i tried just the server

user: username

also tried username@domain.com

we dont use SSL

All the above work fine i do not have a problem with SW not reconising the credentials.

AD Scanning is on.

i do not want to use Sync changes with AD (so not ticked)

AD intregration with user portal is on.

i have not scanned for inventory as i want to get the helpdesk running first.

in people view it has picked up all the users in AD

anyone? i still cannot login via portal using AD credentials.

this is sooo frustrating… doing my head in now.

also just to mention:when saving its does show AD authentication is Enabled.

It might be time for a ticket to support@spiceworks.com with a link to this thread. I’m all out of ideas.

thanks i have just emailed spiceworks support.
