Lenovo first announced its Legion Go 2 PC gaming handheld back in January at CES, and we now have our first look at the device. A video shared on YouTube showcases the handheld in action, highlighting its OLED display, detachable controllers, and more. This is the first time we’re seeing this upcoming gaming handheld in its flesh outside the renders, so hit the jump for a closer look and some more details.
Lenovo’s Legion Go 2 handheld leaked

One of the first things the video creator confirmed on Reddit is that his prototype features both VRR and an OLED display – a significant upgrade over most handhelds, including the upcoming ROG Ally X. Lenovo had already confirmed the Legion Go 2 will have an OLED panel, but it looks like it’ll also have VRR support to offer a better overall gaming experience. Driving VRR on OLED panels may affect the battery life of the handheld due to more power consumption, but we’ll have to see how it plays out with optimizations in place.

Now that we have seen the Legion Go 2 in action, let’s look at its specifications again and see how it stacks up against the upcoming Xbox ROG Ally X handheld that was recently announced.
Specifications | Lenovo Legion Go 2 | Xbox ROG Ally X |
Processor | AMD Ryzen Z2 (8-core Zen 4) | AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme (8-core Zen 5) |

Network | Wi-Fi 6E | Wi-Fi 6E |
On paper, as you can tell, the Xbox ROG Ally X is going to be more powerful than the Legion Go 2 if it ends up carrying the same hardware as the leaked prototype. The spec sheet and the performance comparison would be a lot different if it had the Z2 Extreme chip, though it could remain exclusive to ASUS for at least a year like the Z1 Extreme was. That being said, the Legion Go 2’s OLED panel will attract some attention, and it will also win again in the versatility department with things like a trackpad, detachable joysticks, and more. It even seems to have a built-in kickstand so you can prop it up on a desk and use the detachable joysticks to play FPS games.
It’ll be interesting to see how much the Legion Go 2 will cost, though. That OLED panel with VRR could come with a hefty price tag, and you could be looking at an expensive device, especially if you’re looking to pick up a fully kitted variant of this handheld. We’ll have more to talk about the Legion Go 2 once Lenovo shares more details, so be sure to stay locked in. And if you’d rather not wait to buy a handheld, the ROG Ally with a Z1 Extreme chip is currently going for $499.99 shipped, which is $150 less than its usual going rate. It’s a pretty good price for a handheld that’s very much capable of handling your favorite titles.
