The release for the long-awaited next-generation Nintendo console is fast approaching now, so let’s take a look at the complete Switch 2 day 1 launch game collection. It’s all about the games after all, and while many of us will likely be popping in a copy of the new Mario Kart World the second we get our hands-on the new Switch 2, there is a rather extensive list of over 20 Switch 2 games that will be available on day 1.

Complete Day 1 Switch 2 launch game list

I have previously been somewhat hard on Nintendo when it comes to the Switch 2 launch game lineup. It just seems a bit thin on the first party side of things considering there is really only two major Nintendo titles launching in the first couple months and neither of them are a mainline Mario or Zelda title.
Look, I love me some Donkey Kong, albeit typically the form of a proper DK Country title, and no one is blaming Nintendo for kicking off its next-generation of gaming with one of the best-selling franchises in the industry. I just can’t help but think about what I’m going to be playing between MK World sessions for the first couple of months – I think I might enjoy the new Donkey Kong game, but that remains to be seen – so let’s take a look at the complete lineup of titles you’ll be able to play on day 1.
Now, at this point we all know Switch 2 is backwards compatible with Switch 1 games, and that’s a good thing despite the list of games that will have potential issues continuing to grow. It’s also worth keeping in mind the GameCube library launching on June 5 for Switch Online Expansion members as well – All of the titles confirmed for Switch 2 GameCube library: Zelda Wind Waker, Mario Sunshine, F-Zero GX, more.
But for the purposes of this feature, we are focusing on the actual Switch 2 – this includes the new Nintendo titles and the significant list of ports coming over from other platforms with official Switch 2 support on day 1.

As you can see above, that’s 23 titles (plus three GameCube library day 1 releases) and a good mix of big-time AAA titles, a few major Nintendo games, and some stellar indies too.
Again, there’s really only one major new Nintendo release on the list for day 1 – that isn’t a particularly unique situation for a next-gen console – and just about all of the big-time third-parties are games you can already play on the consoles they were originally developed for, but this is 23 games to enjoy nonetheless, and more than enough content to keep most folks busy until the next brand-new Nintendo game hits store shelves when Donkey Kong Bananza releases just over a month later on July 17.
Some other highlight releases scheduled to land on Switch 2 this summer also include Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV, Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star-Crossed World, and Drag X Drive. We are still waiting on official release dates for Pokemon Legends Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – two major Switch releases that are sure to drive serious sales numbers – but these are both likely to fall into the fall/holiday release window.
