How to buy Nintendo Switch 2 tonight

Tonight Switch 2
Switch 2 launch

This is it folks – Nintendo Switch 2 finally launches on June 5 and here’s how to buy one starting tomorrow night. Loads of 9to5Toys readers were able to score a pre-order already, but if you didn’t you will have a chance to land one in under 48 hours now. Head below for details on where and when to score a Nintendo Switch 2 starting tomorrow night.

Switch 2 at Walmart – be ready at midnight ET June 5

Where and when to buy Nintendo Switch 2 this week

Update: Best Buy has now officially confirmed it will not be offering Switch 2 online:

At this time, Nintendo Switch 2 hardware inventory will be in store only. Games and accessories will be available both in store and online.

Walmart does appear to be allowing folks with cancelled pre-orders to “reorder” the console within a 24-hour window, and there were a few short chances to land one after the April 24 kick-off date, but there are still plenty of folks out there looking to secure the next-generation Nintendo console this week, and we are here to help.

Alongside some official public confirmations from retailers like Target and GameStop, we have been hounding our retailer contacts for official confirmation of upcoming Switch 2 stock, with both Best Buy and Walmart now officially telling 9to5Toys that more units are inbound. It is still unclear whether or not Best Buy will have units online this week or not, but we do know for sure that Target, Walmart, and GameStop have confirmed online stock for folks not willing to stand in-line for hours in the middle of the night or early morning the following day.

It is also still unclear how many Switch 2 units will actually be available online tomorrow night, but we do know they are coming.

Retailers have yet to confirm exactly what time units will go live online tomorrow night and Friday, but here are our recommendations of when to be ready to go based on years of console stock tracking and our (quite successful) efforts to ensure our reader base landed a pre-order back in April – you will want to be ready at midnight ET on June 5 and June 6, and we are also expecting short blasts of stock to go live throughout both days.

Switch 2 at Walmart – be ready at midnight ET June 5 and June 6

Walmart has had the most available stock thus far, and we expect it to have listings coming in and out of stock June 5 and 6 throughout the day as well. It also offered additional units the following weekend after pre-orders went live and this might very well be the case at launch this week.

Switch 2 at Target – be ready at midnight ET on June 6

Target has officially stated that its online orders will begin on June 6 (not June 5). That said, it’s hard to believe it won’t begin when everyone else does, so it might be smart to have it on your radar midnight ET on June 5 as well. Unlike Best Buy, Target is not hosting midnight events in-store, and this might be an indication that its online orders could go live during business hours instead, but it’s hard to say for sure.

Switch 2 at GameStop – be ready at midnight ET June 5 and June 6

Update: GameStop has now confirmed online orders will start at midnight ET on June 5.

GameStop launched pre-orders back in April starting at around 11 a.m. ET, so it is unclear if it will once again for launch day or not. That said, we know its in-store event is a midnight affair, and online orders might be as well.

Switch 2 at Best Buy – be ready at midnight ET June 5 and June 6

Best Buy is still up in the air at this point. We know for sure it is hosting a midnight event in-store (with a chance to score a FREE Nintendo Switch 2 coin collectible), and at loads of them across the country, but it has made no official mention of online availability as of yet. But again, is it really going to let the other three have all the fun here? Maybe, but it’s hard to believe it won’t offer any online orders at all across both days – I’ll be ready at midnight ET both days, and you, perhaps, should be as well.

Switch 2 at Amazon – ???

Amazon’s relationship with Nintendo has been a weird one over the last year or so. It seemingly does not offer new first-party Nintendo gear at all these days, but we are not counting it out completely for the launch. It did offer pre-orders of Switch 2 in Canada, and it does carry Switch consoles, so it might very well have a crate or two (or ten) ready to surface for launch this week.

Other retailers expected to have Switch 2 in-stock for launch day

There are also some other retailers on deck that will have Switch available this week as well. There are some other outliers, but perhaps your next best bet outside of the big four above (five if you count Amazon), will be Costco, Sam’s Club, and Newegg. Costco has its own, sort of special bundles at the ready right now consisting of the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World package and a 12-month Switch Online Expansion Pack Individual Membership that is scheduled to go live on June 5.
