Alongside the long list of games announced during its first Xbox Developer Direct showcase of 2025, Microsoft officially announced its rumored Xbox gaming handheld. The brand has partnered with ASUS to announce them as ROG Xbox Ally handheld, and these will be available to purchase later this year during the holidays. Microsoft has announced two new handhelds – the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X. These new models essentially build upon the existing ROG Ally handhelds and you can learn more about them in detail below.

Both the new ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X are powered by more powerful AMD processors and a native Xbox app, among other things which makes them different from other Windows-based gaming handhelds. The new models also have a different design compared to the older ones that include large, contoured grips similar to those found on an Xbox controller. In terms of specifications, the ROG Xbox Ally X is the more powerful variant of the two powered by an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor which is coupled with 24GB LPDDR5X memory and 1TB 2280 SSD. The ROG Xbox Ally, on the other hand, is powered by an AMD Z2 A processor and is coupled with 16GB RAM and 512GB 2280 SSD.

Both of these handhelds sport a 7-inch FHD 1080p IPS panel with support for up to 120Hz refresh rate, and these FreeSync Premium displays are also protected with Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus. Below is a detailed look at the specifications of each handheld:
