Now just a few weeks after the release of Nintendo Switch 2 and the new GameCube library, Nintendo has announced the first expansion to its retro Switch Online game library. Early next month, Nintendo will officially expand the Switch 2 GameCube library for the first time with its fourth entry, Super Mario Strikers.
Nintendo officially announced the new GameCube Switch 2 library right alongside the Switch 2 as the next major platform to land in the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack game collection. These titles not only require the Expansion Pack membership, but sadly are only available for Switch 2 owners – the GameCube library is not available on Switch 1.
Nintendo’s GameCube library launched in June 5 alongside Switch 2 with the first three titles: The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Soulcalibur 2, and F-Zero GX. But Nintendo has added the first entry in the Strikers series to the mix and it will go live for members with a Switch 2 on July 3, 2025.
Nintendo’s official post reads as follows: “Mario and Co. hit the pitch in five-on-five matches in Super Mario Strikers, coming to Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics on #NintendoSwitch2 for #NintendoSwitchOnline + Expansion Pack members on July 3!”
The first title in the Mario Strikers series and originally released for the Nintendo GameCube system in 2005, Super Mario Strikers is an extreme soccer game where anything goes. Select your captain from Mushroom Kingdom mainstays like Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Wario and Waluigi, and jump into a bevy of modes like Grudge Match, Cup Battles and Custom Battles. In this arena, matches unfold with white-hot speed and intensity, and with no referees to dish out penalties, the only thing containing the mayhem is the electrified fence that surrounds the field!
As we detailed previously, Nintendo has already tipped its hat at what will likely be the next batch of new titles landing on the platform after these first four, although we are not sure on release date or if it might add some others into the mix before hand.
Upcoming Switch 2 Online GameCube titles include Soulcalibur 2, Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Luigi’s Mansion, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, Pokemon Colosseum, and Chibi-Robo.
