1.5.00116
Fixes:
84528 - update Apache Tomcat to 7.0.72 (latest)
Earlier versions of 1.5 can upgrade to 00116, as usual (including 00115, which was a dev build).
Please let us know of any new issues you my run up against by posting in the Support Forum or sending us an email (support@spiceworks.com), as always. If you have trouble upgrading from a previous version you may be able to resolve the problem by reinstalling. You’ll have to setup your devices/settings again, but a fresh start can sometimes resolve issues that persist through upgrades.
You can always grab the latest version here: Stay Ahead of Cyber Threats: Monitoring the Monitors Explained - Spiceworks

Downloading, hopefully this is worth the effort, all previous efforts was, well, off-putting
Since when have the Monitor tool become as big as full Spiceworks ?!?

Ugh. Installed this version hoping there would be some possibility of stability. Now I’ve gone from having to reboot my system twice a day, to just not being able to use it. Installed, rebooted the server and I’m presented with this…
Can’t connect to event service.Make sure your firewall allows traffic on ports 5558 and 5556. Check out our help docs for additional resolutions.
In addition - had to use msconfig to disable 4 spiceworks services, as the installer refused to install this update as port 5555 was in use. It wouldn’t shut down Network Monitor by itself to do the update.

LAS, the installer is considerably larger for Network Monitor, definitely.
Up a Creek, we can help you get this sorted out. If the services failed to stop during the upgrade the installation may be in a half-upgraded state (if the installer was unable to overwrite files locked by the stuck services). We can take a look with you to find out - could you email us to open a case? (support@spiceworks.com)

I’m also getting the installer error about port 5555 being in use. I run netstat and do not see a process running on that port. I didn’t try much else since I don’t want to completely hoark my setup before a fix. I assumed correclty that someone else would have the same issue. This is running on a Win 2k8r2 server with no other apps,
Hey Robert, open a case with us via email as well. We’ll help you get it sorted out.

Thanks for the offer Ben B but I had my fair share of Ouroboros with this monitoring tool.
Lost enough integrity and face with clients by suggesting such a buggy dashboard solution.
Though I remain hopeful that we will eventually get back to a light version that basically does what it originally did in day one
can’t install over the previous version 1.5.113
errors out stating another service is using port 5555
I see my PC is listening on that port but not sure what could possibly be using that…
can I change the port during install so it uses something else?
the install I have now is using port 8080(HTTP) and 8443(HTTPS)
Hi Kevin, I’m working on this with Robert, too. We’re going to test disabling the NetMon services, restarting the OS, and then upgrading. Could you open a support case with us, too, via support@spiceworks.com?

Hi KevinB8360
To see what application is using what port, with lots of details, using standard windows command line
In Administrator Command prompt (run cmd.exe as admin) use the following command
netstat -abno | more
(Space bar for next screen, but if cmd window scroll buffer big enough you can drop the " | more" and just scroll up to check application and port details)

Can confirm the install went ok after manually stopping all spiceworks services ( 1.5.113 → 1.5.116 )

Confirming same issue even after force closing all Spiceworks services
Also confirming no listings of port 5555 being opened under netstats results

I forgot to check back here and wasn’t getting notifications on your comments lol… I ended up using netstart -abno in command prompt in order to find what was using port 5555 and it was java.exe
oddly enough I uninstalled java and it was still a process using that port
I used taskkill /PID to kill the process since I couldn’t figure out why java was still running
killing the task locked up my pc a bit and I had to log out and log back in (got some nice little errors when logging out too lol) and then I retried the install and it worked this time.
good 'ol Java… hey Ben.B (Spiceworks) did you still need me to create a support ticket to send logs or anything?
Thanks LAS - I wish I saw your post since it took me a little googling to get that command! thanks for that!
Hi guys, if you were able to get the upgrade working by stopping the service you don’t need to open a ticket, but its ok if you already did.
If you are getting the same error and are unable to stop the services you can try setting them to “disabled” in the Windows service manager console, and then restart the OS. Then try the upgrade - this should prevent the services from ever starting so they won’t interfere with the upgrade process.

Hi KevinB8360,
For future reference, you can use the standard Windows Task Manager to show the command line called for running the java.exe so you can see What started it
Go to “View” - “Select Columns…” and check “Command Line”

Sorry, I didn’t get notice of your response. I see below that you don’t need us to open a ticket if we stopped the services, and then were able to get SW Net Mon. installed. That’s what I did. Won’t open a ticket for that.
I can open a ticket for the other part though.

Hi guys.
Had some trouble installing it too… As in upgrading, that is.
Made a full uninstall but the Program Folder was still there. Unable to delete it. Even after reboot.
Rebooted in safe mode, renamed the folder. Rebooted & installed with no problems this time.
This version looks far more stable then the previous version I had (113).
Even after adding 16 servers & 14 switches to the monitor, it keeps running smoothly.
Running it on a dedicated physical Windows 10 machine (depreciated CAD station)
4 cores, 24 GB RAM (8GB in used), and 256GB SSD.
