I need a good alternative for Log Me In Free.

I have a user who needs to access their work PC from home. I don’t want them using Log Me In Free, because I want it for IT access and the PC can only subscribe to one account.

Our in house VPN client won’t work because she has a Mac.

I need an alternative that allows your to remote into a PC across the WAN for free that does not require someone to be at the destination PC to allow access.

Any ideas?

Macs can connect to IPSEC VPN. I have done it, though it’s been awhile. Link below has some instructions:

TeamViewer. Give it a try, works great for me.

Teamviewer should do the trick if you set it up for unattended access

Edit:

Also found this tool and this seems to work with Windows and Mac.

LogMeIn Free is not free for business, right?

There is always the old tried and true RealVNC and or Tight VNC.

I am not 100% certain if they are free for business either.

Then of course there is always Ammyy Admin - Free Zero-Config Remote Desktop Software, Remote Desktop Connection and Remote Access Software . It is not free for business but is rather cheap.

Good Luck.

edit: I forgot about Team Viewer, several people here reminded me, Thanks. Never used Team Viewer but another tech I know says it is real easy and works good. Anyone know if that one is free for business? I need to remote control about 15 workers and still dont have a really good solution for it.

Logmein is free for business.

Check out some the titles listed here from the AlternativeTo website. LogMeIn is listed but there are many other Open Source and commercial alternatives. Hopefully one of these will have what you need.

Is LogMeIn Free not for business use? I have never seen that anywhere.

If it is in the license, it is not bluntly apparent.

Damn, you’re right and I already had an account. Got so many I forgot about that one. Now all I got to do is roll it out to the remote workers. Thanks!

Teamviewer is not free for business…but to connect to one PC from home is ok I believe.

You can try Mikogo.

So TeamViewer will install a client on the destination PC (Work) and the user can go to a program/site from home and connect without any issues?

Yeah, just setup the client for unattended access with a password. and there is even an option to prohibit accidentally closing the application.

CrossLoop is a good one, Ive used it many times as an alternative.

I would think about adding LogMeIn Central to your LogMeIn account. It will let you setup a user for this person then allow her to only see and use her Office PC. That is what we are doing and it works great.

^ That is not free.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

I think TeamViewer will do the job for this.

Teamviewer is only free for non-commercial use.

I’d recommend LogMeIn Central as well, and you are correct it’s not free, but the benefits are substantial. Control who has access to what machines, it’s easy. You can still use the Free version with it, it’s what we do here.

Join.me requires someone to be on both ends…

Again, this software is for one employee to use to connect to her work PC.

I am moving the employee off Log Me In so I can use it as another tool for our IT Department.

That is why I need something comparable to give to them to use.

I understand the non-commercial use issue. I am viewing that as a gray area and accepting some risk.
