Hi There,

I was wondering what everyone out there in the IT world was looking to accomplish in this wonderful new year.

Virtual desktops for 80% of the site is our main goal.

At home, it’s all about side business growth and swapping out my huge array of consumer-grade NAS drives for a decent rack-mounted one to better serve the customers that use it.

Here at work, well… there’s way too much to list, though not a ton that I’m directly involved in.

Getting all of our users to use the Spiceworks helpdesk email? (we have stragglers or I’m being too @nal retentive)

On a more serious note, we have about two years worth (maybe more) of moving our production lines from one building to another. After the crap hit the fan with the most recent move, it was brought to light that we (IT) should have been included (when we were not) from day one. With fingers crossed, I hope to continue working with our peers in getting smooth transitions.

pass ICND2 to get my CCNA and learn Powershell.

Earn Pure Capsaicin. Get Microsoft Certified. Marry a Supermodel (not IT related, but a good goal at that) and never let go.

Yup all stuff that will be carried over to 2014, to 2015, to 2016, and so on.

Get my Cisco Security cert, which will complete my Bachelors degree. Keep this job for the foreseeable future and move on up in the ranks.

Looking to move to a more Virtual environment servers and desktops if I do not find another shop to work for or grow my own side business enough to support doing it full time. /runon

World domination, users who pee on command (and in the litter box), more useless catch-22 HR requirements, and cookies.

Work goals: finish our Virtualization Project, complete our new Fulfillment system upgrade, possibly finally get VOIP going, and try again to get our network managed and repetitive tasks automated (been fighting for a year to no avail).

Personal Goals: re-certify CCNA, and certify Security+ and VCP5. Possible a Microsoft cert or two, if I have the funds and time. Learn Powershell, and see if I qualify for getting my PMP.

Maybe, just maybe, I’ll start building a personal client base and start my own side business again.

Honestly… to continue to ramp up into my new career.2012 was rough. Hoping 2013 brings some breathing room.

I have a pretty long list. I’d like to get my VCP this year. Implement VDI and virtualize the last remaining physical servers.

The big ones: Improve WAN link speeds, virtualize the last few servers we can, and kill off WinXP desktops. I could pray for a new VOIP system budget, but I’d rather aim low.

Better time management (okay that’s for me, not my systems), more professional development time (me again), and to virtualize about half of my servers.

Get our newly purchased Unitrends backup solution setup and running, create two new DC’s (vm’s) and move our domain and all servers to 2008 R2, setup a new webstream solution, upgrade a bunch of users to Macs, among many other things.

Hopefully work one more year of working 3 jobs and then go NTG full-time! That would be my dream!

Thanks,

A.J.

Haha, my favorite part of that was “Yup all stuff that will be carried over to 2014…”

Shutting down 20 legacy servers that are 7+ years old running Server 2000 / 2003.

Finding a new job before May.
