We strongly caution you against using the beta in production. If you hit a serious bug you may have to start from scratch!

Please do not upgrade from Beta II to Beta III. If you have problems you will be ask to perform a clean install or a clean install with your 4.1 data. Using your 4.1 data is beneficial to the beta program because it represents a normal upgrade from 4.1 and will help us detect any migration problems that might not occur when upgrading betas.

The third build of the Spiceworks 4.5 beta is now available for you to try out. Testing and feedback from you is an integral part of every release cycle and we appreciate the time and effort you put into giving us the feedback. In addition, you’ll be sure that the final release is a seamless upgrade for you.

Please read the following posts on information on how the beta program will work. Please be sure to test your favorite 4.0 features as well as the new 4.5 features!

Want to use your existing data?

Follow the instructions in the how-to on moving your installation . This build will automatically upgrade your data. Please note: The migration will take a while. Please be patient during the migration.

What’s new in this beta? and what are some of the known issues?

  • Scan Schedule functionality: You can now schedule each subnet with it’s own schedule. This has been a requested feature .
  • User Portal Authentication Issues: There were an issue in earlier betas where users from the user portal were getting authenticated into the admin side of the app. This has been fixed in this beta.
  • Migration and Upgrade fixes. Several issues with upgrading older databases. Please do check this out by upgrading from a 4.1 database (not your production install of course!)
  • Timeline performance improvements. Timeline views should load faster.
  • User Interface for the Helpdesk Views Queuing was improved to assist you in building your queries. Some users requested current logged in user support and this was also added.

New stuff from Beta II:

  • The new network map functionality is available in this beta. You can edit maps to add new nodes or edit links between nodes. With this functionality you can customize maps to match how you think about your network. You can also use it to plan network changes and run what-if scenarios.
  • Queuing in the Help Desk is broken up into two sections: Rules and Views. You can set up rules that assign tickets to users. Views allows you to only view the tickets you want to view. Please create rules and view and give us your feedback.
  • The Software view in the Inventory section has a new table that should improve performance. Let us know what you think.
  • Overall performance in IE has been improved. Try it out!
  • Internationalization Editor has been updated. We need your help in building language packs to be available as part of the final release. If you can help translate please help us!

We strongly caution you against using the beta in production. If you hit a serious bug you may have to start from scratch!

What changes have been made to the table structure?

I failed to notice anything documented when going from 3.x to 3.5 and some of our reports stopped working. Given that we are using an automated reporting system to collec data at the end of each month, having something that has altered the struture could prevent the reports from working.

Downloaded and working very well.

Commin in right now

Hi,

The install is going well. But now i have an other problem with setting the email. I get the next error:

Error on outgoing settings: Authentication failed, please check username and password

I know for sure that the account and password is right, because i have test it.

Does anyone know the timeline to go to full production for v4.5??

Please follow the Testing Guidelines if you are experiencing problems, issues posted to this thread will get lost and not looked at.

Installed, and working ok so far.

Will you be able to upgrade from this Beta III to final?

Excellent!

Thank you so much for the multiple schedules!!!

Boy you guys are good… haven’t been able to get in to beta II much yet! I’ll see what I can do in III.

Downloaded, installed, no issues…seems to load much faster too!

Got it installed! I migrated data from my old server to this one. The old one had Queues in it. I see that the Queues are still there. Are Queues built in to this version, or do they use the same Extension as the old one? When I disabled my old queues, they all went away and couldnt figure out how to use the built in ones.

Thanks All!

Just installed on a test box.

Still missing the ability to make the category on the helpdesk side (or any field) mandatory before closing a ticket. This will help when runing stats on tickets.
