Intro:

Hi, I’m Noel and have been working in IT support for xx years (lost count), new to SpiceWorks. I like climbing, pizza and beer, going off computers.

This is my first post

Background to issue:

I’ve recently taken over as IT Tech in a school and need some kind of audit\asset software. After reading around SpiceWorks seem to fit my needs (and its free - bonus).I downloaded the latest version and installed it on a VM. It turns out my predecessor who I’ve never met had the same plan. The software update to the latest version and backed up current data.

Issue:

I was expecting to open Spiceworks and just be able to go with it, although I’m being prompted for credentials. I’ve tried my SpiceWork login but I’m guessing I need a local account to access the data. Unfortunately the previous IT staff have all left leaving very little in hand over details. Is there a way of getting in to the inventory or do I need to completely remove SpiceWorks and data and start again from scratch?

1 Spice up

Not for sure but I believe from scratch is what has to be done.

from https://community.spiceworks.com/help/Resetting_Your_Password_Outside_The_Spiceworks_Desktop

you can reset the password and find a login account

Thanks for the advice. Using the logs, I managed to find and admin account and reset password.

Hey novelkivell,

Glad to see you were able to find the previous install and got in. I encourage you to add yourself to that installation as an administrator, and then you can remove the other administrators as needed. Let us know at support@spiceworks.com if you have any initial challenges and as you already experienced the community is very helpful as well.
