I think it is time to move on. Are there jobs out there that I can do that doesn’t require talking on the phone and just post memes all day?
Seriously thought I need to start looking for something else. Stress and anxiety have manifested into physical pain. That isn’t good.

I am at 35+ years.
Probably 10-20 to go.
I was thinking:

— Potato Chip taster
— BEER taster
— better yet, SCOTCH taster
— Lotto winner
— Koala Bear census taker
— couch potato expert and consultant
— Doctor Who aficionado and commentary

I understand the feeling. I hope you find that dream job whatever that may end up looking like.

Part time gathering the shopping carts at the grocery store. Get to be outside, get some exercise in and dodging cars is no different from being downtown.

Well if you live in California I heard they just passed a $20 minimum wage to fast food workers. You could flip burgers and pour drinks and never have to get on the phone or interact with customers. Just saying

Chip fab worker, I know someone who worked in packaging, put on the bunny suit, load the tool and watch it work then unload and prep for the next shift

I kept saying “I’m gonna give up & become a garbage truck driver”
Until an actual garbage truck driver replied one day “You know they’re replacing the drivers with computers?”

Retire? Does Walmart still have someone that puts a happy face sticker on customers?

I was feeling that way after 17 years in the last job…It wasn’t the job that was the problem but the company.

I sometimes feel the same. Hoping to get a more labor extensive job than trying to keep up with the never-ending change in IT.
But then again, I enjoy it most of the times. Just random thoughts that comes up once in a while.

I hear ya. I have the added bonus of looking for work and seeing them dropping the wages to below poverty levels for many jobs up to and including systems administrator jobs. It’s crazy. Can’t afford to work and can’t afford not to.

You could become a data entry clerk (though number blindness by the end of the day is a risk. lol.) or for better salary look into becoming a data analysist (some Python or R and some SQL under your belt would likely help).

My solution (for now, at least) is to have an IT job that doesn’t cause tons of stress, nor require 24/7/365 attention and develop a hobby farm, for lack of a better term. Lots of physical work and I get to be with animals and plants rather than on the phone or in meetings or dealing with people all the time. Don’t get me wrong, I loved all that, especially when working in schools, but I love the other, too, and waited most of my adult life for the chance to do it.

IT careers require continuous learning. A lot of people struggle with that kind of commitment.
