Currently Running Spiceworks 4.1 on an XP box.
I have correct all authentication issues for it to scan my Desktop but it tells me I don’t have AntiVirus installed. AVG Free shows up inside the software list so it is there.
How can I fix this?

Do you have the windows xp security centre turned on?
Echoing Andy, definitely sounds like you don’t have Security Center enabled. That is nearly always the problem.
sorry about not being more clear, but the spiceworks is on an xp machine and security center is on, and my desktop is win7 both have the new avg free 9. both computers report no av installed.

Perhaps it’s a Spiceworks supporting Windows 7 clients with antivirus installed issue? As Andy and Scott have mentioned Security Centre needs to be enabled and this thread confirms it .
It sounds like its more to do with the fact that AVG 9.1 has not long been released. There might be something different with that way it reports itself.
It should have nothing to do with the age of the product. Securty Center must be enabled. there is no “update” needed on teh SW side.
In your MS Security Center, does it detect AVG 9 as your anti-virus program or did you check the box for "I have antivirus software that I’ll monitor myself "?
In order for SpiceWorks to detect the AV software, MS Security Center not only needs to be enabled (like everyone else has said), but MS Security Center needs to be able to detect the AV software as well. If MSSC doesn’t detect the AV software, then neither will SW. I don’t know what criteria MS uses to decide what programs it detects and which ones it doesn’t (I assume it depends on who has paid (“bribed”) MS to “test” their product). I don’t think AVG is one that shows up in MSSC, but I’m not positive about that.
I have just installed the latest version of AVG (v9.0.697) on an XP and a Win7 machine. In both cases AVG reports itself to MSSC correctly.
I will test this at work on Monday to confirm that Spiceworks will pick it up.
Excellent point, forgot about that in Win 7.
Well on both XP and 7 AVG is reporting correctly.
Just that spiceworks only see’s AVG on the XP machine and not on the 7 machine.
AVG does show up in the programs list for both thou.

You mean that both are reporting correctly in their local Security Centers?
Yes both are reporting correctly in Security Center.
But only the WIndows 7 machine shows as no AV installed within Spiceworks. XP machine reports AVG just fine.
Okay, sounds like a job for sending in the logs to SpiceWorks. If the full scan is working (software is getting updated) and Security Center is reporting correctly and you are scanning with WMI you should definitely be getting that data in there.
Well whats my next step then? How do I send the logs and were to?
Listen can I give you access to my spiceworks for you to take a look.
I just noticed too that AVG is showing up within the install programs and in the Running Services List. I also noticed that the Monitor’s it shows are wrong too.
I currently have a Dell 24" @ 1920x1200 Res and a Veiwsonic at @ 1440x900 Res.
Spiceworks thou shows my Default monitor is at 1920x1200 (dell is my main screen) and the Dell showing as 1440x900
We can do that but my schedule is really limited… I am out of town on business and need to get some sleep right at the moment. If it can wait I am back home on Tuesday night (US time) and could help out. In theory I might be able to look tomorrow but no promises. I will PM you my email address.
Right. Have just tested at work and I can confirm that AVG reports itself correctly to MSSC on both XP and Win 7, but SW only recognises that XP has an AV. For Win 7 it says none detected, even after rescanning several times.
What is odd though is that I had McAfee 8.7i on Win 7 before I put AVG on, and SW picked that up fine.
