Hey guys,
I’ve got a Barracuda Backup 190 that’s drive has died. I attempted to find an image to restore the unit and just put my own drive in it, but after 45 minutes in bureaucratic phone hell talking about technicalities of what customer information was on the device when I bought it (law firm was absorbed and now they think I bought it on eBay or craigslist). I realized they probably weren’t going to be giving me software but making me buy a ‘refresh’ package for 90% of the cost of a new device after wasting much more of my time.
I’ve got a 2TB enterprise SATA drive here that I’d like to install and copy the factory image of Barracuda’s software to. Any ideas how I can download a copy of this software, or does anyone have a new device that hasn’t been setup yet that can be imaged? Is there a virtual appliance trial that’s the same software, which will just activate when it’s on their proprietary hardware?
I’ve got all the paid hardware right here, and I’m being held hostage for the software I already paid for.
I guess one option would be to just buy a new unit, for the 10% more, image it when it comes in, and then have TWO units without wasting more time on their ‘support’.

do you know who it was purchased through? Most reputable vendors will clear this up for you.
They actually told me on the phone who it was purchased through, but it was a law firm out in Long Island, the company that they are now is a law firm in Manhattan. It was VERY clear I would be jumping through a million hoops to get this replaced through them. I’m not interested in -any- help from Barracuda. I just need some software for a device.
call and ask them for demo device.
your under warranty, they should send replacement drive.
again, I’m not interested in -any- help from Barracuda. I wish I had a recording of the call I was just on so you would realize what a complete waste of time it was. I just need some ubiquitous software for a ubiquitous device.
You are looking to download Barracuda’s software, you are going to need their help. The only alternative is to convert the hardware to an appliance for another backup product.
