As some of you know, we now have the ability to have private members-only groups here on the community.
So far we use it for a variety of purposes, such as a Spiceworks Employee only group, a private group for the Spicy Peppers to talk about moderating the community, and some private beta test groups for some of our vendors.
We’re trying to find out if there is a need for more private conversations on the community, such as conversations between employees at the same company, or if you have a user group or mailing list where you’d like to be able to have conversations that aren’t for public consumption.
To that end, we’re looking to experiment with this concept and see how useful having a private group would be. I’m looking for a couple volunteers who have a group of people they’d like to regularly interact with in a private group. For instance, if you have a private Yahoo group, or listserv, but would like to integrate that with the rest of your Spiceworks account, we could use that as a test.
If you’re interested, please PM me and we can work out the details.

What about the cool kids group where just the cool clique gets to chat. If you don’t know what I’m talking about then you don’t need to know

One use I could see for this would be for spice corps if they wanted to have private member only conversations

And Nic posted this publicly, not in our SP group.
How about some MSP groups. So for us NTG folks, etc…

Sam, are you actually trying to convince us you are cool? I was always under the impression anyone in IT is technically referred to as a Nerd or Geek, which throws being cool straight out of the water. Sorry had to poke fun.
On topic though, I can see the benefit of having private groups in the community. Just depends on interest, trial and errror, and how they are implemented to decide if they will be positive or negative though.

LOL. The NTG group would be the largest, most active group in the whole community!

Sorry, comparatively cool. Is that better?

The SP group has been around for a while, but it was the only private group and was hard coded. The ability to have new and multiple private groups on the fly is the one that we’ve only had within the last year.
