Hope this finds you well! Would you mind taking two minutes to share your thoughts on beta testing for 6.2? We’re hustling to get the latest release out, and though we hate to say it, the number of folks testing this version is lower than we’d like it to be…

Would you take a few minutes and comment on any or all of the following questions? It would be an ENORMOUS help, and we really appreciate you taking the time in this busy season!

  • Are you actively testing the 6.2 beta?
    • If so, what made you decide to test?
    • How did you find out about the beta download? (email, ad, 6.2 group, PM, other?)
  • Are you not testing the 6.2 beta (yet)? If not, what’s keeping you from testing?
    • Just too busy right now
    • Seems like I just got 6.0 up and running - this release is too soon
    • The new features don’t really apply to me
    • Waiting for a later beta release
    • Had problems downloading/installing the beta
    • What beta? I didn’t realize the new beta was out
    • Anything else?

Thank you again! Your feedback is such a critical part of making sure Spiceworks is top notch, and we really appreciate it!

6 Spice ups

I have not installed it yet for 2 reasons:

  1. Just too busy right now. We are prepping for the holiday break when the company will be closed (except for IT) so we can hopefully get everything that needs to be done taken care of.
  2. I did install the first beta on my workstation to test but with the limited resources of my workstation, it impacted my normal work so I had to un-install it.

Thanks, Keith! That’s really helpful… I appreciate you taking the time to comment.

I am testing 6.2 actively. It’s difficult to do with how busy things are here lately with end of year and all the holidays. I like doing it because i like seeing what SW is working on and what new things are coming out.

I will say that it does seem like we just finished the fairly large beta release of 6.0, jumped over 6.1 and now here we are.

The biggest issue i could see being with the lack of time available for people with end of year and holidays. I know it’s been tough for me at times. Every time a beta is released it takes time for me to install, copy over my data, configure, etc. Just my two cents.

I am also testing 6.2 semi actively due to other work loads.

I think the biggest thing is that people don’t realize that 6.2 does have some big improvements on it. Also a lot of the features seem to mostly just work so there does not really feel like there is a lot to test out.

Also I think that a lot of the testing really happens once there is knowledge of a key feature that has come out. So most people don’t really get into the beta testing quickly.

for instance I don’t know what changed between Beta 2 and Beta 3

I tested the first version of 6.2 beta but not for very long. Busy with other work recently. Liked what I saw and wish I could have done more but other work didn’t make it possible this time.

Setting up build 3 as I type this.

What is this “holiday stuff” people are speaking of? lol

  1. Yes, 6.2 group, and I am extremely interested in the Help Desk changes and fairly interested in the scanning changes.

I have 6.2 version II installed right now and had scanning issues similar to BernardW. Finally made some changes before rebooting the host and getting a good scan so I want to look closer at Beta II before I move on to Beta III.

I wish it were not too late to get the Help Desk feature I requested today- assigning a ticket to multiple Help Desk Techs. I have users who I do not want accessing all tickets but cover for someone else on occasion and need to see and comment on the tickets in their area or department.

  1. Just upgraded to Beta 3 and started testing semi actively due to other workloads, bad time of the year

Hurdle is the new forced uninstall - install sequence of every new Beta update, some serious admin overhead to ensure data is valid and stable when testing next beta (time waster for time I don’t have currently)

  1. I have been involved in Beta testing since Spiceworks inception in 2006, started with v1.2 and Alpha’s.
Get emailed and PM for new Betas to test, normally follow Test Plan diligently but time not a luxury at year end

Already tested some interesting feature additions and most works fine, aside from previous beta scanning issues.

Not actively testing - Just too busy.
