I have in theory done the setup but the remote site will not connect to the Central site. I have one remote site talking to the Central site so I must have done it right once.

I never have gotten the authorization code to pop up.

I can telnet from on port 9676 from one site toi the other and visa versa so I would think the firewalls are OK.

When I try to save the remote site settings it says Checking for Server it never succeeds. Says Central server not responding.

I read the Need help “Configuring the remote site” and the UUID has a value.

Don’t know what to do?

Thanks for any help.

5 Spice ups

In this situation I usually upgrade to the latest edition of Spiceworks then disable remote sites and enable it again with a new password.

then reconfigure the other remote sites with the updated information.

Report back your findings.

Hi Gregory,

The central site and the two remotes ar at V 7.2.00174. Passwords are new.

The site that is not connecting is a Windows Server 2003 R2.

Did you go through the motions of actually disabling and then enabling the remote sites feature on the central site and then the remote sites?

I deleted Spiceworks on the remote site and then reinstalled it.

I am confused when you say to Disable and then enable the remote sites feature on the central site.

On the central site the remote site is disabled. On the remote site it is enabled.

From the remote site I can telnet the central site port 9676. On the central site I can telnet the remote port 9676.

But on the remote site configuration when I save the remote settings if tries for about 10 seconds to “Checking for server” then it says “server not responding”.

I have tried no information in the Site Callback, the IP address, and the DNS of the remote server. Same for all.

It never gives me the Authorization code like it did for the other remote site that works.

Clear the IE Cache and Reset IE on the 2003 box

you did get the other sites going again right?

Yes the one other remote site is working. It is a Win 2012 R2.

The Win 2003 R2 has IE 7. I am using Chrome 34.0. I cleared Cache and reset both IE and Chrome.

The pages get errors trying to run IE.

Same results. Trying to not do any upgrades to Win 2003 R2.

i can only assume a firewall issue, are you running your central site over https?

Firewalls are off. Telnet port 9676 works both ways.

I would bet on an issue with Win 2003 R2. But I clearly don’t know the product.

I am trying to test Spiceworks to replace DoToAssist Monitoring and Helpdesk but if I can get remote networks reporting I can’t use it with my clients.

Oh well.

Thanks for your ideas and help. I appreciate it.

I moved the remote server to a Win 2008 R2 server. Same problems. Telnet works both ways.

I appreciate the help. Is there a way to get support or is this only supported y the forum?

Thanks.

Hi,

I still have not been able to install this. I got a question from the Spiceworks Team asking if I got a answer to this.

Nothing I have tried in the suggestions have gotten it to work.

I am not sure what options I have. Do I need to pay for support?

Just trying to understand.

Thanks.
