Hey all. I’m a bit new to the IT crowd. All of my experience has been hands on and learning as I go under my coworker’s guidance. But I’ve come to the point where my employer is prepared to start getting me trained and certified.
My question is this: There are a lot of online schools that do Network+ and other certifications. I’m having a hard time going through reviews and picking one that is best. Right now, we’re working on the Network+ certification specifically, but may not stop there - especially if this works well. So are there any places you’d recommend from first hand experience that offer good courses that are relevant to today’s certification exam?
Thanks all!

Not courses, but as augmentations to your learning I would strongly advised visiting relevant Network+ videos by both Eli The Computer Guy and Professor Messer. Both are available for free on YouTube. They’re a bit dry but when you’ve been nose-deep in protocols and ports and subnets all day sometimes it’s nice to sit, listen and maybe watch half heartedly.

I use itpro.tv. It’s a bit pricy at ~$500/year but their videos are comprehensive and they have a Roku app. They teach everything from A+ to Ethical Hacker to you name it. I just took a course on o365 installation that helped my migration tremendously. It also has pretests but I think they’re another service or an add on for extra cost. Never used them.

Thank you! I have found Professor Messer’s videos on it, as well as cybrary. But my employer is looking for an in depth training that will fully prep for current testing. And I’ve read that Cybrary’s videos are good for basics, but not really good for training to pass today’s version of the certification.
You can always self study as well. I got my A+ this way and am pursuing my Security + this way as well plus supplementing with cybrary and prof messer.

Thats basically what I have been doing. All hands on and in downtime hitting up Microsoft Virtual Academy and other resources like Cybrary. I think I may have found what I’m looking for through uCertify. Anyone know anything about their courses?
I highly recommend CBT Nuggets. They have a 30-day trial period. They also have a great community and a ccountability coaching to help you out. A subscription will also get you access to Transcender practice tests. They have been an invaluable resource in my certification training for A+, Net+ and CCNA. Michael and Sean can get you more info.
Link to the course on Net+
And an entire course on subnetting if that confuses you. Which is did me for quite some time.

+1 for CBT Nuggets, I use it not just for studying but for referencing and seeking a solution when I come across something puzzling when I’m working and come across an issue.
Been using them for years.

If you have any plans on getting your CCNA afterwards I would say skip the Network+ and jump right into the ICND1. The ICND1 has a ton of overlap with Network+ (OSI model, TCP/IP, DHCP, etc…) but you also get your feet wet with configuring actual equipment and you’ll be half way to your CCNA.

Hi Derek - I’d definitely recommend checking out our Network+ course. New Horizons helps you learn:
-
Basics of networking theory, concepts and networking methods
-
Basics of networking data delivery
-
Networking media, cabling and hardware
-
Networking protocols and the OSI model
-
Networking Operating Systems
-
TCP/IP fundamentals
-
Networking security, including preventing and responding to incidents
You’d also have access to tools like labs, reference materials, practice exams, etc.
If this is something you’re interested in, let me know!
