I am getting this error on all of my workstations and 8 out of 10 servers…

I have looked at all of the existing threads on this topic with no luck, but here is what I have found.

I have spiceworks installed on a server that is one of my domain controlers and I am troubleshooting this connection to my laptop.

I tested from the server using the command line test and the three acounts I have setup that should work do infact return the serial number. I also tested with an account that should not work and it did not work, as expected. So it works from the command prompt but not from spiceworks…

One post said to do a forward and reverse DNS lookup, i.e. nslookup IPADDRESS & nslookup HOSTNAME. When I run the nslookup HOSTNAME it returns the ipaddress, however when I run the nslookup IPADDRESS it returns “UnKnown can’t find 192.168.16.15: Non-existent domain”

Another post said to run sfc /scannow which I did on my laptop and it reported that it had found some corrupt files and successfully repaired them. I have the log file if needed, but testing after this has the same result.

What OS are you trying to scan?

Does it have a firewall?

This how-to should cover most scan issues, give it a glance, there is a ton of info in it to help with scan errors.
