I am interested in assigning custom attributes to specific devices. For example I’d like to load all of our mobile phones into Spiceworks. I will need to add ESN, SIM, and DCC fields to run a proper inventory report.

The only devices that use ESN, SIM, and DCC numbers are these phones so I don’t want these custom attributes to show up on the inventory page for my workstations (for example).

Is there a way to create a custom attribute that will only show on the device summary or complete profile page for a particular group or device type?

At the moment no, custom attributes are global but you could make a plugin to hide them for every group exepect x

This shouldn’t be too hard, i would start with the helpdesk only role and find out what it does to hide/lock/edit the pages and then take this into where device type is x or group is x dont show custom attribute y

Thanks again for the help. I will have to play with the plugin idea. I’ve had Spiceworks for 2 years now but have never fully set it up and gotten comfortable with it. Creating a plugin may be a little over my head. I don’t know.

Is there a segment of the Spiceworks Community that creates plugins? I’m imagining someone who likes writing plugins and will do it upon request.
