Hey Guys!!! I am fairly new to the IT world. I currently do day to day trouble shooting and desk top support. My real interest is in the Security side of everything,. I am looking for some certification courses that I can take online or some sort of boot camps. What would be the most recommended/needed for someone new in the field and looking to get my foot into the door to start on a new path in the IT field.
Thank you!!!

Start with the ‘+’ ones, Security+ would be the one for you, for now.
Ultimately you prolly want a CISSP if you want to go into management, if you are more hands on, you probably want to look into linux, pentest etc as you need a good details understand of technology to be able to secure it.

Also listen to security podcast and read blogs
I think the ‘boot camp’ model is too expensive and not effective enough for one to retain and actually learn the information. I recommend putting in focused study time with books, videos, and most importantly Hands On. Get a home lab up and running. I have also used the Exam Cram books for my CompTIA exams when I have a good grasp on most of the material. There are some great channels out there dedicated to InfoSec and Pentesting; i.e. SecurityTube, SecureNinja… Those are the two that come to mind right now. Neally has some good advice about learning Linux. Kali Linux is a great distro to learn all kinds of security tools, but it can be overwhelming if you are brand new to Linux. Good Luck!
Iv heard of the comTIA Security+. I will check into it.
I have been looking at some videos on Lynda to try and get the basics of Security. I needed to be pointed in a general direction on where to get started and I can find my way up from there.
Thanks!
