In addition to the advice given here, become conversant with Linux. It is the hackers toolkit and a great platform for learning

I highly recommended PLURALSIGHT.com and its learning videos. I am currently taking the MCSE path and also seen a lot of other vids on SECURITY.
You can test 30 days

How much do you know about networking? Without networking you really won’t be able to grasp the concepts of security effectively. So if your networking skills are a little green, I’d start soaking up information about that first.

In addition to cybrary.it here are a couple other sites:

There are numerous certifications and related training materials available. CompTIA’s Security+ is one that gets recommended a fair amount. Other certifications to consider would be the CISSP (defacto certificate for information security professionals), CISA (auditing security), CCSK (cloud security controls), and anything from SANS that matches your area of focus.

Linux is a good tool and a lot of back-end systems are built on Linux so understanding nix based systems is essential. Some Linux distributions are security oriented (eg, Kali Linux), prebuilt with a variety of tools for a security professional.

A good virtual lab (I use Virtualbox because it’s free) to start with would be Kali Linux as your attack box and two target systems. The two systems I’d suggest would be Metasploitable (there are three of them now, 1 and 2 and linux based and can be downloaded for free) and DVWA (Damn Vulnerable Web App). DVWA will need to be built but there are plenty of guides on this process and building will help you become familiarized with linux a little more. You’ll want to make sure your virtual lab is setup with a NAT network in the network settings; this will keep your lab from being exposed to the internet and subsequently compromised by others.

Another fun resource is Defcon or BlackHat presentations. There are a lot of good high level talks for some new to security and there are some that dive deep into topics that might not be immediately useful.

A piece of advice I was given when I started was “think like a bad guy.” What is valuable at your company? How is it secured and how can you get it out?

Good luck!

Hey @hassanshoaib ,

Welcome to the SW community!

In addition to @CompTIA 's Security+ another good place to start would be our Cybersecurity hub which not only has a little more details about CompTIA security courses but also lots of free resources that could be helpful! http://www.mylanderpages.com/CompTIA/cybersecurityhub

I have a CompTia Security+. It’s a pretty basic certification. I was disappointed. Only took it because I had to.

Depends on how advanced in security you want to get. definitely master the basics. Networking, programming, cryptography. Cybrary.it is a good place to start. If you are looking to get into network security, I would suggest Cisco certifications. They are thorough and provide a lot of detailed knowledge.

I’ve always used www.cybrary.it and www.udemy.com

Install VMware and spin up some virtual machines to follow along and test.

CompTIA Security+ is always a good place to start for an entry-level certification. We have a 17-hour course that covers all you need to know in 39 videos. Getting through a video or two a day can go a long way in prepping yourself for the exam.

Good luck!
