DTQ#101 - Throwback Thor’s Day - OS/400’s New Name

Happy Thor’s Day, folks! I’m going to stop playing with titles in the topic title, but may still keep them going within the topic itself when I think of good ones  Thanks for the feedback on that!

The Recap:

Yesterday’s question asked about turning off the hibernation feature in Windows 10/11, and around 90% of you chose “powercfg /h off” which is the correct answer! Good job! For those unfamiliar with the tool, PowerCFG is used to configure quite a few different power-related settings in Windows, though some of them require something akin to an eldritch incantation to configure from the CLI alone, there’s still a few good tricks you can learn without much digging. Check out Microsoft’s Docs page on it for more info.

I also just wanted to link over to @batmelek 's recap of collective lyrics to our new Pink Floyd parody song here. Anybody know how we can get this to Weird Al? :joy:

The Ramble:

I really do appreciate the feedback that folks provided yesterday. I mentioned it at the top of the post, but I’m going to try to keep the actual topic title standardized, but I did want some feedback on what title y’all like best.

Of the fun titles I’ve done, I liked yesterday’s S.P.I.C.E. and B.A.C.o.N. best, but what do y’all prefer? (Extra poll below the normal one)

The Real Question:

I know I just said yesterday I wanted to do more variety, and figured y’all would prefer less tech history, but… It’s throwback Thor’s day, so we’re doing a tech history question again :stuck_out_tongue:

Which of the following is the current name for the OS originally released in 1988 as OS/400?
  • IBM OS/2
  • IBM i
  • IBM PoWER oS
  • :bacon:
  • I’m not sure, but I’m excited to learn more!

Bonus Poll!

Which title should I give these going forward?
  • UDTQ - Unofficial Daily Trivia Question
  • DTQ - Daily Trivia Question
  • SPICE - Sophisticated Poll of Intrigue, Community, and Enjoyment/Education
  • BACoN - Bewildering Automation Challenge of kNowledge (or one of the other BACoNs)
  • Other - Tell me in the comments!

The Rest:

If you’d like to be notified when there’s a new question, check out this How To guide on following tags! I also typically post in the General chatroom when they go live, so come hang out there too!

As always, if you have suggestions for future questions, improvements, or want to help out with a full question, shoot me a DM or leave a comment below!

And since you’re still reading this, don’t forget to leave me a spice-up just below this! If it’s not orange and filled-in like this → :sw_pepper: it’s not spiced up yet! It lets me know you enjoy these and gives us both points, so why not?

For whatever reason my brain went to OS/2 Warp.

as soon as I saw OS/2 I was looking for the Warp option. You’re not alone there.

As for the name, DTQ doesn’t quite fit because it’s not really official and doesn’t have the metadata features of the old daily question, but UDTQ doesn’t quite fit, either, because it’s produced by a Spiceworks employee and his bosses haven’t told him to stop with it already. So it’s more of a semi-official daily trivia question: SODTQ maybe? Or maybe DTQ-DREd (Daily Trivia Question — Disater Recovery Edition)

I love bacon, but if it is not automated, how can it be bacon???

I recently worked for several years at a company that used the IBM system for its daily sales operations. I know what that system is currently named. But I am only 50% sure what its name used to be so am falling onto that 50/50/90 rule: Any time there is a 50/50 chance of getting something correct, there is a 90% chance you will get it incorrect!

How about S.P.I.C.E.Y. B.A.C.O.N.? The best of both worlds. Something like this?

Personally I like that the title changes all the time.

More of a puzzle and scratches the ‘this is unique’ itch.

Either way, @Josh-J-Spiceworks is killing it!

Speaking of which, is there a status update on where the progress of rebuilding this feature is at?

5 Spice ups

I’ll defer to @Sean-Spiceworks on that one. Happy birthday @Sean-Spiceworks :stuck_out_tongue:

There will likely be a post about that this month. Can’t be more specific or certain than that.

Ah … OS/2 and OS/2 Warp … I remember digging around in those … briefly. So glad they didn’t really take off. But then again, Windoze was clunky at first, too.
