I find there are two distinct types of people in this world. Those that wouldn’t mind getting on stage in front of their friends and a bunch of strangers and belting out a tune and those who would rather crawl out of their skin.

Full disclosure, it’s been a few years since I’ve been to a karaoke place, but I used to really enjoy it. Picking a karaoke song to sing is quite the ordeal. You’ve gotta find a song in your range and one that is fun for the crowd (save those ballads for the shower).

For me, I have found that the B-52s have always been my go-to. If I’m with a pal, we’ll do Love Shack (of course), but if not I really like Roam . It’s one of those sleeper songs that many may have forgotten and not overly done.

So let’s hear it, if you have a go to karaoke song let us know what it is and if not, let me know what you’d rather do than get on stage!

If you’re coming to SpiceWorld and karaoke sounds like the best bad idea after a long day of sessions, you’ve got to check out Ego’s on Congress and let me know! Whether karaoke sounds like fun or you let others handle the mic, be sure to share your favorite summer song for a chance to win a Yeti Crossover Backpack in our contest here . Four lucky winners will be selected and there’s still time, but it ends tomorrow, Aug. 4. I thought my speakers were broken.

Now I can’t stop thinking about how All Star is an epic karaoke song.

I have been “that guy” once and did Bohemian Rhapsody with some friends… Can’t say I did it justice either lol

I’m a terrible singer (was actually banned from even being near a microphone back when my buddies and I had our garage band lol) so I very, very rarely do karaoke. It’s bad as in just plan awful and unpleasant, not bad in an entertaining/endearing way.

That being said, I have a very hard time not singing along with A Little Piece of Heaven by Avenged Sevenfold. The last time I went to a (non-Rock Band) karaoke night a buddy and I sang that, the song is so fun, theatrical, & croony and it isn’t like M. Shadows is Freddie Mercury or anything so it’s one of those that’s easier to get away with singing despite being a horrid singer.

This was my theme song when I was a teacher.

I consider Karaoke a crime against humanity. so my go to response is

although if you held a gun to my head I’d select Da Da Da by Trio

My answer: No.

No one wants to hear me sing. No amount of autotune, echo, reverb, or other magic can make me sound decent.

Don’t much, haven’t in probably over a decade, but if I must:
For What It’s Worth – Buffalo Springfield

Oh my goodness, yes! Love that this was immortalized. Such a great karaoke song too!

I have several go-tos.

  • Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers: Runnin’ Down a Dream
  • Pink Floyd: Comfortably Numb
  • Queensryche: Silent Lucidity
  • Sevendust: Praise
  • Jace Everett: Bad Things (thank “True Blood” for that one)
  • Chris Isaak: Wicked Game
  • Jimmy Buffett: …any of the hits, really; they’re not difficult
  • Righteous Brothers: Unchained Melody (that was my wife’s and my penultimate wedding song, so there’s meaning to that when I sing it)
There are countless more that I can jump up to do or jump in with. One group song that I’ve been part of is “Seasons of Love” from the Rent soundtrack. It’s great when a bunch of Rent-heads can step in to wordlessly take on roles of the cast.
I also participate in a monthly acoustic jam session at my local brewery so there are always songs being brought up that I didn’t know I could sing but I know how to sing.

Yoooooo… we just went to a KTV the other weekend! We have a karaoke setup in our living room, too!

For me, it depends on how drunk I am.

Sober-ish Lamo usually goes with “Can’t Help Falling In Love” - Elvis cuz it’s super easy to sing and I’m still self conscious.

Buzzing (WI-Style) Lamo starts singing “Hotel California” - The Eagles or “What’s Up?” - 4 Non Blondes (but the He-Man version).

Drunk Lamo starts picking out Aqua, OG Lady Gaga, Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran… CUZ LIFE’S TOO SHORT!!!

I have only done Karaoke once and I sang Billy Idol “Forgot to be your lover.” Even manged to work in a few Billy style fist pumps.

See, here’s where the reminders kick in. :grinning: I forgot that “White Wedding” is another one in my repertoire.

I’ve also taken lead vocal duties when my brewery jam mates want to play some Johnny Cash but they’re not confident singing while playing.

Cash’s baritone is easily in my range. I can tap into the lower tenor notes, but it’s tough unless I’ve really warmed up and practiced for a while.
