Sadly, our summer anthem contest is nearing sunset. We’ve had so much fun these past few weeks and owe our thanks to everyone’s thoughtful suggestions. Together, we’ve created one of the greatest playlists ever filled with summer jams. Feel free to check out the playlist with (most) of the song selections here . Just like our community, our playlist is a varied mix including classic rock, 80s, Bollywood tunes, country, Christian rock, punk, hip hop, metal, and pop music selections.
Now that I’ve finally had a chance to get through all 300+ submissions, I was so impressed that so many dug deep to add songs that remind you of carefree summers, from road-tripping memories, or music that makes you feel like you’re on a vacation. These mentions have no influence on the contest winners but deserve recognition nonetheless.
Because some of the songs that were shared could not be found on Spotify, I wanted to share some of my favorites here:
- If you were ever wondering if a Metallica and Men at Work mashup could work, I’m here to tell you that it does. Thank you adaml2 for sharing Land Down One-der .
- Thanks to @fishybanjo for sharing this great tech, music parody, Can’t Stop the SUSE . I never thought I’d hear the word ‘hypervisor’ in a song.
- Finally, thank you to @elliotpeterson2 for sharing this great lo-fi mix .
Some of you could not pick just one song! I counted it as one entry for the contest, but if the songs were from the same artist I added up to two of them for the playlist, but if they were all different, I added each of them.
Special shout out to @michaelmtallman . I can tell you thought about this question dutifully and each of these picks deserves the chef’s kiss.
Now the fun part! Perhaps unsurprisingly, there were a few songs that were shared by multiple folks. Today you’ll have one vote to pick the one that is THE ultimate summer anthem from these choices. Here they all are if you need a refresher :

I’m gonna have to select none of the above with asterisks for Fast Car since it will always and forever be a Tracy Chapman song and Summer of 69 because Bryan Adams always feels inauthentic.
I’m also disappointed Echo Beach didn’t make the cut because I always marked summer as starting the first day it was on the radio
