I got involved with Spiceworks from my old job. They had SW Help Desk set up as the ticketing system and I was clueless as to how to use it. It took a literal 5 minutes of playing around to get in, play with the config to my liking, and then actually set up a user friendly help portal.

I found spiceworks by googling “network inventory software” set up the software for a client at the time, then, 5 years later, realized there was a community! the rest is history.

Technical Angel told me about this place. We were both members of another community, and I was beating my head against the wall with an Active Directory issue. She told me to ask here. You haven’t managed to get rid of me yet!

my boss signed me up. then he told me i could read cool articles by clicking on the water cooler thing in the helpdesk. and then i found out how awesome IT people are.

My boss put a post-it note on my screen that said, “Find out what the hell “Spiceworks” is.” He said he heard about it from one of his IT buddies. 6 years later, I’ve hosted a Spicecorps (for 4 years), leveled up to Habanero, done a few Unplugged events and now I’m a mod.

I was looking for a new ticketing system for my current employer. I never put it together that spiceworks had the community that it has. Now for all my questions, spiceworks is the first place I look and has been very helpful over the past year.

Looks like there may be another spot available for the duck on that laptop.

I found SpiceWorks when I was about to start a job supporting nuns and needed a free ticketing program. Back in those days, you were auto dumped into your local SpiceCorp group, and there was a meeting coming up really close to my office. I went to the meeting and really enjoyed it. The next meeting was held at a sports bar, so I started working with the leader to find appropriate venues, and he ended up offering me a spot as co-leader. He brought on another co-leader, who ended up hiring me when I left my job after having a baby.

I got involved with the IRC chat room as well, and will continue to bug those guys for a long time to come.

Boss referred me to it and my world changed.

I first got started with Spiceworks at my former job when we implemented it as the primary helpdesk ticketing system. We were using helpdesk tickets in sharepoint and I’ll let you facepalm that one. At my current job, I brought up spiceworks since my boss and I have had experience in using it before. Since we rolled it out the users have liked the portal better than the previous system of email chains. Since then I’ve been an active community member and enjoyed being here.

For you, the day DoughnutDestroyer first invaded the community was the most important day on the internet, ever. But for me, it was Tuesday.

But seriously, Street Fighter reference aside… (that thing I did, did you see it?)

I joined the community when I was desperate for an answer. I honestly can’t even remember what I was looking for.

I realized how big the community was. I instantly learned how valuable of a resource this was, so I started asking questions when I had them. After about a month, I started answering questions. I got hooked. It was my release from work during downtime. I found other people in situations way worse than me which made me feel better, especially if I could help them out.

It wasn’t long after I started with the community that I began using the Spiceworks application. I’ve gone through multiple new versions, always hopped on the beta’s if they were looking for people to test. Then, in 2014, thanks in huge part to @Lifesize I was able to attend SpiceWorld. All the people I had been communicating with and hanging out with online for the last year or so I finally met. Some of them became best friends of mine, you know, BFF’s, or sisters who would share traveling pants.

I even had the opportunity to come appear in some product promo videos for SSD’s (can’t remember which manufacturer), appear as a guest on Ctrl Alt Tech with +starg33ker, and smash Doughnuts with Jeff Grettler at round rock.

My contributions to the community have slowed over the last couple years after a couple side steps in my career (Drones, kayak shack, you all know the story), but I’ve always been loyal to the community and to the Spiceworks application (still my favorite for helpdesk). Hopefully if things slow down at work, I will become more active eventually in the near future since I’ve been back in IT for a while now.

Viva La Spiceworks!

I originally found SpiceWorks about 7 years ago or so when I found an answer to an AD problem I was having for one of my customers.

I didn’t create an account at the time, but did when I started my current position a couple of years ago. We had no helpdesk software, everything was done via sticky note, so that was the first order of business. Got SpiceWorks setup during my first week and have been in the masses ever since.

I started a new job almost exactly 2 years ago and was bored while in my learning period. I started browsing the community and found an unanswered post I knew the answer to. I decided to signup and answer it. From then on I was hooked.

When I moved to IT, my old boss installed SpiceWorks Help Desk. I found the forums and haven’t left the Water Cooler yet.

I started my first job out of university and they used spiceworks for some reporting. They set me up with a local account, and I joined the community shortly afterwards after I saw a topic pop up in the inventory that piqued my interest. That was almost 6 years ago.
