Spiceworks uses the term app for its Windows desktop app and for its mobile apps. The mobile apps exist in generation 1 and 2. Support for the Windows desktop app has expired by end of last year. Support for the mobile apps of generation 1, I don’t remember if it had expired last year or in January of this year. Only the mobile apps of generation 2 continue to receive support and hence may become able to loose support some time in the future. What will happen when there support expires may be found or asked when they announce expire of their support. As your question is hypothetical, it may not refer to those apps whose support has already expired months ago but may only refer to those mobile apps of generation 2. There are no other Spiceworks solutions still supported which use the term apps.

Please refer to such future announcement of expiration of support or any following clarifications. E.g. if you take the example of the mobile app of generation 1, it was possible to continue using it as long as you had running the corresponding legacy Windows desktop edition. As far as I remember, it did never support the HDS nor the CHD edition. And if I understood some recent release notes correctly, these first generation apps should have lost their functionality in the meantime, earlier this month if I understood correctly. I didn’t check.

Do Spiceworks remove access to its app?

Please refer to the coming announcement of future expire of support for further details and following clarifications. Spiceworks decides for each solution and each app as time and announcements come.

Similar to what Bigford has already mentioned, Spiceworks abandons active development long before expiring support. After suspension or abandoning of active development, Spiceworks may limit its development to critical security fixes and you may not expect fix of bugs or severe and non-critical vulnerabilities. So continuing to use such an app or solution may not be compatible with certain business regulations of strongly regulated business domains, long before the remainder of support expires. Unless Spiceworks disables corresponding back-end services on its infrastructure, you may often continue to use such apps and solutions with limited or expired support, at your own risk, knowing that it has vulnerabilities which may no longer get reported nor fixed after expiry of support, and reported but not fixed during times of limited support. In case of the legacy Windows Desktop app, active development and security fixes have finished in March 2018 while support expired by 31 December 2021. That’s 45 months after abandoning development and bug fixes. And as long as you find compatible components, it is still working. Spiceworks clarified that it has no intentions to close down the back-end services for that legacy app. We don’t know when Spiceworks may change its mind.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

Support for the desktop app is already EOL, it’s apparent everything is headed to the cloud offerings.

You can keep using it, but due to insecurities things like email will eventually stop working.

{"@type":"Person
bbigford
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/bbigford"}}]}}
