Will Spiceworks Desktop continue to work?

Simple question here. After reading through multiple pages at What’s going on with Spiceworks Tools & Apps in 2021? , I am still unable to determine if Spiceworks desktop 7.5 will continue to operate after the end of 2021.

Specifically, I and apparently a lot of other users who have privacy requirements need the following two questions answered.

Will existing users be able to continue to log in?
Will we be able to add new users?

From the comments I don’t think many of us are too worried about patches and security updates. Those sites where patches and updates are required or critical will move on to other on-premise solutions, and I suspect many have already done so.

Notice I’m not asking about linking our on-premise system to the Spiceworks community. While nice it’s not a must have.

At the end of this year, we will be EOL’ing the legacy Desktop. We would not announce this if we were not firm in that decision. Ultimately, you have to take that information and do what is best for your organization. You can take the chance that it will continue to work for years to come, or you can use the time and weigh your options.

As for the questions about what EOL actually means, it means we will not be making it available for download or supporting it. I know members that have (and some currently) used legacy Desktop completely disconnected from the internet (and us). My recommendation would be testing that yourself; temporarily disconnect the application from your network and attempting logging in and out.

That said, any members who currently have or had run legacy Desktop in this method, what challenges did you run into?

Hi Mike,

The EOL basically means that the product is no longer usable, even if it’s accessible. Using a product that’s no longer updated is a tough task.
Sean has already given a good answer, but I would like to make my contribution. I’ve explored the Spiceworks Community and found that many users are upset about the news and will probably (if not already) be looking for a replacement.
With that said, if you think that moving from Spiceworks is best for your organization, we’d love to help migrate your data to another help desk or Spiceworks Cloud.
