OK fellow Spice Heads! - What would you do if you came across an Ad from someone looking for someone to take a test for them in exchange for payment?

The ad was placed on Craigslist and I felt compelled to reply. (Complete ad is included below in my reply to the person who placed it)

1) Nothing . . . Not my concern

2) Same as you (my response below) - give them a chance to see their error before major consequences occur.

3) Nail their ignorant cheating A$$ to the wall by sending the ad directly to the school.

My reply to the ad sent to the person who submitted it -

  1. Cheating is epidemic
  2. Cheaters usually get away with it
  3. Just because 1 & 2 are true does not mean it is acceptable to do it.

Life Lesson 1: Announcing to the world (literally here) that you are a cheater is probably not the smartest move to make.

Life Lesson 2: USUALLY get away with it does not mean ALWAYS get away with it.

I could just as easily have sent this email to support@redactednameofschoolhere.com instead of to you and let them deal with it but I thought I would first give you the opportunity to reconsider your decision to cheat and -

Remove the ad yourself
Woman up and do the required studying
Take the test yourself

Just a heads up that you have an Algebra 1 course student advertising on Craigslist CityNameRedactedHere - computer gigs for someone to commit fraud by taking your final test for them.

Contact phone number for person who placed the ad which can probably be easily crosschecked with your student database is - RedactedPhoneNumber

Complete Ad Below -

$500 to take online Algebra 1 test

compensation: $500

Very last minute I found out that I needed an algebra 1 course to transfer universities, so I signed up for an online course through a shady company called “************.com”.

I have had several (4) friends go through this exact same processes, in the exact same manner. To complete the course and get credit, I would need to go down to one of their many tinny little office building locations and take an online final or sorts, to prove I learned the material.

Because I’m so unconfident that i will get a 60% or hire, I’m going to follow in the footsteps of my peers and hire someone.

I have had several friends do the exact same thing, there is no reason for concern.

If it is requested, i will provide a fake ID with my name and your picture for your comfort, but you will not be ID’d at the dest or before taking the test.

All you need are my registration papers which i will provide. The test is 30 questions, exact replicas from the study guide which i will also provide.

(You may take the test at your convenience any time in the next 2 months)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be Female

  • Must be more than confident with algebra skills

  • must be 28 or younger

compensation: $500

Take it, ask for half up front. Then purposely fail it

Teach a life lesson hopefully. Don’t cheat, or expect to be cheated by a cheater :-)!

Honestly I would just forward the ad to the dean of academics at said school.

Do both… take their $$$ and report them.

6 Spice ups

Yeah, I’d just report it to the school and let them learn the hard way. If they posted publicly, they probably won’t care about your email.

2 Spice ups

I was expecting to see an ad asking for someone to fill in and take their Ethics 101 exam for $500. To that I would have replied “enjoy your career in politics.”

This!

Hopefully she’s not majoring in Civil Engineering, otherwise we may end up with a leaning tower of [CityNameRedactedHere].

Given how I am at with higher math, I’d probably pay him to take my test.

My sister on the other hand, thinks algebra, calc, trig, and the like is fun and simple.

If a poster can’t use basic grammar (hire vs. higher in this case), I would definitely avoid.

3 Spice ups

This is extremely common. Most cheats are a little smarter and approach upper level students privately.

And there is always the possibility the is a sting of some sort…

She could’ve just got a $40hr tutor and worked the exact problems and took the test herself…

And here I am taking my proctored tests like a chump!

it could be a trap…maybe the school or some anti-cheating non-profit group is catching people willing to help people cheat.

how about that for a turn of events

I was hoping to get a reply back from the person who posted the ad.

It was Probably the Algebra that made me see red here.

In all my years of school, Algebra 1 in 8th grade was the only D I ever received. I like to think that it was the fact that the teacher was the baseball coach who seemed more intent on flirting with the female students than teaching the course but I got behind on the basics and it plagued me the rest of my school years.

Straight A’s in Geometry 1 & 2, Physics, Chem, and even Trig but x’s and y’s were always a struggle for me. Guess it’s my linear brain only being able to translate literal things.

Sounds like they’re a good resource for fake ID’s as well. This person would have been handy when I was in high school!

I always found X’s and Y’s.

I always failed though for some reason.

Perhaps this is a clever social experiment to see if anyone actually gives a toss about it.

As an aside, there is a very interesting Freakonomics podcast on cheating.

Here

it really is none of your concern. I think you are making trouble just for the sake of making trouble. leave her alone.

So you are ok with it when she gets hired at your company 2 or 3 years from now at a starting salary higher than yours just because she has a “degree”, and you end up doing most of her work for her because she doesn’t have a clue as to how to do it?
