Got this text, and you know, maybe it is the English teacher in me, but I had to grade it.
I didn’t fail it… maybe I should have, but I’m softhearted. There were a couple of highlights in there that indicated effort.
What about you? Do you have more commentary for Shimoya/Evelyn?
Or, have you gotten some good scam messages of your own lately? Would love to see what you come up with for this one, or one of your own.
(Or, if you have a good one but don’t want to critique it yourself, feel free to send one in for me to grade. Just shoot me a PM, and I would be glad to apply some red ink.)

I’d argue with the daily pay thing - “Daily pay” is the salary, and “paid the same day” means that you get paid that day (which in itself is pretty unlikely).
The rest is spot on though, especially as I’ve spent the last couple of days going through CVs… some unbelievable nonsense in them!

As soon as I see the from address I am deleting.

Ha ha. You can’t have actual applicants that are this bad.

I’m impressed with the level of English. Most spam I see is full of spelling and grammar mistakes and poor punctuation. I get the impression that you did not teach at the elementary or junior high level because this is the kind of criticism I saw from my college professors.

Fair point, although there are some legitimate people that still have hotmail, with weird addresses… but this one is way too long and strange, given.

Correct. I taught at the college level.

I had one person say that they were the “Caption” of their cricket team, another who claimed to have “Intimidate” level English (instead of intermediate, I guess), and one this morning who rated themselves 1 star out of 5 on all of their skills.

Have you actually done any hiring lately?? It’s been several years for me, but every time I would post a position, I would get hundreds of responses, and any résumés or cover letters that had typos or grammatical errors in them immediately went in the trash pile. It typically narrowed the list of applicants down to twenty or less.

Oh, sure, grammatically this bad, but not deception this bad.
That’s all I meant.

I would interview the 1 star guy. If 30 years in IT has taught me anything, it is just how stupid I am about everything. Pretty sure I’m a 1 star guy.
Edit: In an interview, I was given a written test that asked to explain in as much detail as possible everything that took place from you typing in a search and the results being returned. My mind immediately started with the process of the keycap pressing the contact layers together, the keyboard controller chip converting it to ASCII and sending a 5volt signal to the keyboard controller. Then the keyboard controller on the PC converts the binary data back and passes it to the OS. The OS checks to see if it is a system level command like CTRL+ALT+DEL and if not passes it to the active application. That’s the point I just wrote “No, and I’ll explain why.” on the app. I did not get hired.

A few people got this at work. I’d say the deception level is pretty high since we had people question it. I got it personally and it was right around the fires in Cali. I am in Cali, so while I didn’t fall for this, I can see others in my situation that might.

I am one of those legitimate people with a hotmail address. My wife loves to point that out that I work in IT and still use an “old” address.

Ooh, yeah, that one is definitely better than my example (in terms of deception and grammar). The email address isn’t horrible, and they gave a short deadline to try to get people to click rather than to think. Very deceptive.
I’d give it a B- maybe.
[Grading for deception because that is the purpose of the document, right?]

What you don’t see that is blacked out they actually had our Company name so right off the bat it was like wait what?

Had my old hotmail address since 1997, it is a .com and not a .co.uk.
Only access i have to it is on an old Windows Lumia 820, as i have no idea what the password is. Haven’t had any emails to it for a while. Hoping it dies quietly.

My favorite question from a 1-star interview was “What do you do on a daily basis that gives you the biggest dopamine rush?” to which is quickly responded “Leave at 5.” as I knew this interview was not making it through to the next rounds.
