So I recently had a personal external hard drive fail and sent it in to get the data off it to the tune of $1350. of course, I paid because I really need this data back. But if this were to happen again, for future reference, (And yes I do NOW have a NAS set up that backs up all its data to itself and the cloud) Who would you use for Data Recovery?

If you have backups, why did you need to pay $1350?
Edit: Nevermind, i can’t read.
I’ve honestly never had to send a hard drive off for recovery. Typically if i can’t recover it myself, we consider it a loss and just make due.

Cuz we have backups now. After we sent it in to get repaired, because we got extremely unlucky and have been talking about getting a NAS to backup the device for a week or two and it just happen to fail right before we got the NAS
I’ve used @DriveSavers Data Recovery in the past. Not cheap, but they do good work.

Thanks for the shout out. Since data recovery is a last resort type of event, it can be expensive relative to the device or devices that the data live on. Great to ask for referrals from the IT gurus here at SpiceWorks. No matter who you use for recovery, make sure that they fit your needs, especially if you have sensitive data on the device.
DriveSavers has been in business for over 30 years, doesn’t do anything but data recovery and focuses on creating the best chances for getting your data back. Be sure to vet the company you want to use. We are open 24/7 to answer the phone with a live person. Also, since you are a SpiceWorks user then you can use code DS98006 when you call to get a discount.
I’m hoping that you’ve done your best to mitigate your data risks so that you don’t have to call us, but you can tell your friends that didn’t head your data loss warnings, lol.

I suggest for a Stellar Phoenix Windows data recovery - Professional Software, as this software is capable of recovering the lost or deleted data as well as the partitions. But, if still, you face any issue regarding the recovery of your data, then go to a Stellar data recovery service center to recover your complete data. But, I think the solution of data recovery software is worth as it is quite easy to perform and is less expensive than a data recovery center. Also, the practice of taking a backup of your valuable data on time should be adopted by all of us to avoid the data loss problems.
What kind of hard drive failure you faced? If it is not about hardware failure; just a corruption or something about formatted or deleted partition of hard drive, then you can refer to Kernel for Windows Data Recovery software for the recovery of data and files from it. Refer to http://www.nucleustechnologies.com/datarecoveryblog/hard-drive-recovery-cost/ and get more details about data recovery from hard drive.
It’s all hardware failure at this point, we tried a few programs but it would have taken 2 years to recover the data, and it kept crashing.
