Hello all,
I am in a bit of a jam. We took over support for a company and they have a Fortinet 60d Firewall. It seems that their last IT guy formatted the firewall. It has no firmware at this point in time but appears to function outside of that. Of course since he left on less than desirable terms he denied our requests to transfer the Firewall over to the new client so we can obtain the firmware. Unit must be registered in order to get firmware. Since this could take several months with Court preceedings and what not in order to get this transferrred we thought we would ask here if anyone has a copy of the latest version firmware. I beleive its 5.0. Once installed we can update and function as normal until then they are stuck.

I had similar situation but with another vendor. Hardware is owned by the company, not employee. We ended up sending a letter on company letterhead signed by company officer requesting to change contact info which they did within 1 business day.

thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the previous IT vendor was a bit shady. He purchased the firewall then invoiced the client almost double what it actually cost. Either way as far as the law goes my client owns it. But according to Fortinet they don’t. That’s why we need legal intervention however that’s super expensive and they don’t want to go down that road unless mandatory.
If you’ve tried going to Fortinet about it and got no where, and want to avoid going the legal route, just get a new firewall. I don’t know if you are going to get someone to post the firmware.
i also have this issue with an MSP we use. Our routers are registered to them, so guess who has to do updates to them. Always fun to try and get them to do that.
At this point I would file complain with small claims court for value of the device. If nothing else just to make the responsible party’s life difficult.
This is a sticky situation. Good luck

I guess the cheapest and easiest way is to go ahead an buy a new firewall.
I found one at $467 here: Fortinet FortiGate 60D | AVFirewalls.com
Yeah it is worth a shot! Maybe someone will have it. They are sticking to the hope of getting the firmware but also want to possibly purchase a new one. Im trying to talk them into replacement then that should get us what we need. They are not all that thrilled about replacing a $2000 piece of equipment they literally bought 2 months ago. I know they are not that expensive but thats what they were charged.
At this price point I would purchase a 2nd one. Get the firmware access to load on the first one and put them both in HA. I see the 60D supports Active/Active or Active/Passive, and Clustering.

Don’t let their missteps put you in a jam, they need to have legal hardware and software.
Sounds like the prior guy dragged them over the coals.
