Today I ordered a 16GB RAM upgrade for my Dell PowerEdge 1850 (home server) and the RAID kit for it (had to get this from eBay US). Really should get the DVD drive upgrade too but if I look hard enough, I probably have a spare slimline DVD drive somehwere anyway.

I’ve also done some work but who cares about that on a Friday. Lol.

What is everybody else up to this fine day?

I made a PowerPoint deck to submit a project to my boss.

I am waiting on testing to back up a test server so I can clean up snapshots that have been sitting there MUCH too long.

I am going to waste my time on Spiceworks forums

I am going to submit my phone inventory.

I am going to follow-up on my proposal for phone system bill change.

I will call the guy back who has been waiting for me to schedule a time to remove DHCP off a router and for the equipment to be returned.

I will play the last game before the All Star break on my baseball game. I will call up Nyger Morgan, and teach him to play RF since I have no one to put out there.

Anyways, Friday just got even more awesome. I’ve just sniped a PowerEdge 2950 (R3) off eBay for £35 with 8GB RAM and 2 quad core processors and free delivery.

Sometimes I wonder where my money goes…but today I know fine well that I spent it on awesomeness.

Trying to make my code user proof. Amazing how many ways they found to break it. Currently adding message boxes that say “Never do that again. Ever.” followed by an explanation why.

Let’s see… Today… Look at an issue a user reported regarding printing issues with Excel and Bluebeam Revu. Prep the A/V laptops and make sure the wireless mics have fresh batteries for Monday’s team meetings. Follow up on a couple tickets in the system. Put together an intermission slideshow for said Monday meetings. Spin up backup copies of the servers in a sandboxed environment to make sure they’re good. Maybe update the firmware on my home firewall. Maybe. Look at the weather forcast and cringe (100 degrees today and tomorrow, really???).

It’s amazing how, even with tons of warnings and messages, that a user still continues to try to do something in their own way and then inevitably breaks it. AND THEN COMPLAIN IT’S MY FAULT FOR IT BREAKING!!!

Oh dear, it just doesn’t stop. I’ve now gone and bought a pack of 8GB USB flash drives. Totally needed and will be well used once they arrived. Planning to use them for OS installs and diagnostic tools etc…

over here, Friday is the Sabbath, so it’s normally my day off. I tend to go for brunch in one of the hotels or cafes.

However, it’s Ramadan, so people are supposed to fast during the hours of daylight. Almost all of the restaurants are closed during the day.

Watched a bit of TV, took the new intern out to show him the area. Then went to the coffee lounge to shoot some pool. The intern is a hustler, so he beat me pretty convincingly.

Probably Going to order some food for delivery later. Someone is organising a party by the pool; might go and join them later.

Tomorrow is the start of a new week; we work 6 days here.

About the only useful thing I’ve done today is chew some guys ass out for not having a 2nd DC. I was as nice as I could stand to be.

Finishing building an Azure read-only DC and getting the VHD uploading for the weekend. Then burning my paycheck filling up my truck and getting pounds for my Europe trip next week. Finishing off with a Kokanee
