Really could never afford it. It took me until 1998 to save up enough and by that time Windows 98 was out.

My fondness for Windows went retrograde ~20 years ago. Some of what I do at work still requires Win 10 and occasional Windows Server bloated/neanderthalic “knuckle dragging” but less and less as time goes by (thankfully!).
