Hello everyone,

My friend is experiencing a rare issue with his Google account: he has lost his Gmail password. I know what you’re probably thinking: just do a recovery, right?

Typically, when someone loses their password, they can recover it through a mobile number or a second email recovery method. But in this case, my friend linked his phone number to his email, and when he tried to use the SMS verification method to change his password, something strange happened.

Google asked him to choose one of two numbers below, but both numbers were the same. He picked one and received an SMS verification code, but when he entered it, Google prompted him to enter another verification code sent to his email. The problem is, he can’t access his email without his password.

So, my question is: how can he open his email to get the verification code? And how is it possible for someone to use the same email to recover their own password?

If you did not set a recovery email address or mobile number, you will have to abondon that email account, if possible create 2nd gmail account then seek for Google assistance and either use that email as alias or ask google to wipe that email account then recreate after 3 days (if not taken up already).

The set is a mobile number… But email recovery is not set.

Please explain more what do you mean abondon that email account, if possible create 2nd gmail account then seek for Google assistance

If this is one of the free Gmail accounts, then there is no phone support, and the only way you may be able to recover the account is Sign in - Google Accounts
Is there another device that is already signed in and where they can change the 2FA settings?
If this is a Google Workspace account, then they need to contact the Workspace admin.

I visited the link you told me for recovery I followed every thing by sending the code to the cell phone number and then after I entered the code again it says .

An email with a verification code was just sent to the email witch is the same email that I lost the password.

How can I open the email !!! To get the code.
