I’m having a strange issue where a new drive mapping that I added to my “master mapping” GPO is not showing up.

In troubleshooting I have made a new GPO with just the new drive that I am trying to map, all of the settings are exactly the same as they are under the “master” GPO and the drive shows up with the new one, but not the original. This would be the 9th drive mapping on the original GPO, all of them targeted to security groups, and yes I am a member of the group.

Any ideas about what I can check to get them in the original GPO? I’m trying to consolidate all of my drive mapping GPO’s to clean things up and don’t want to have a separate one if possible. Thanks

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

9 mapped drives ?? why ??

This is so old school…why not use UNC shortcuts ? U can place the shortcuts on your desktop or task bar or wherever you want…

Then you can save all those TCPIP connections and handshakes etc to the shared folders that you do not use all the time

{"@type":"Person
adrian_ych
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/adrian_ych"}},{"@type":"Answer

Its hard to say without seeing all the settings but have you tried choosing a completely different drive letter just as a test? Might sound silly but I seem to remember an issue with an unused legacy drive letter preventing mapping

{"@type":"Person
andyniel
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/andyniel"}},{"@type":"Answer

One of the issues that I’ve had back in the days of old, was drive letters that were being held for some reason, like USB Drive or Memory Drive Readers that can have multiple drive letter.

I’ve had to tell the GPO to fist remove the drive letters that I want to use then update that letter with the mapping that I provide in the GPO.

It’s something to try but you may want to do a GPResult /r (or html, etc.) just to see what’s happening. You should be able to test his at the GPO server or even on the PC to see what’s really happening. You could have another issue causing a hangup like slow network, bad connectivity, or even DNS issues.

{"@type":"Person
moorebeers
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/moorebeers"}},{"@type":"Answer

Don’t overlook the ‘obvious’.

you may do a Net Use cmd to see if maybe it is already being used.

{"@type":"Person
adickerson0108
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/adickerson0108"}}]}}
