I just joined a new computer (windows 7) to a domain and all hell just broke loose. getting error in my event viewer. I have removed it and joined it back to the domain. when i run the rsop.msc. there is a red X on the computer configuration section. Any help please as this is not affecting other windows 7. i am using server 2003
The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the filexxxxxx\SysVol\xxxxxxx\Policies{6F4765FA-9609-4337-A869-70C3B2171768}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:
a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller.
b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).
c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled.

So have you checked all of the things the error message tells you to check? If you try manually go to that locatio n from that computer does it work and can you open the GPT.ini file in there? *\yourdomain.local\SysVol\yourdomain.local\Policies{6F4765FA-9609-4337-A869-70C3B2171768}*
yes i can access the file from the workstation
When all else fails, reload / reimage the affected workstation. Sometimes it’s quicker / easier than spending time trying to track down an obscure registry or driver issue on one particular workstation.

I am having the same issue but when I look into the Policies{file} it isn’t there. Normally I would just copy and paste the folder from another server, run gpupdate, and this time the policies would be applied correctly. I am just curious as to why it is looking for a policy that doesn’t even exit. O and reimaging for me really isn’t an option considering it’s my PC.
