Came into work this morning hoping to end the week on a good note. Saw Chik-fil-A sandwiches in the kitchen, homemade gooey goodies from a co-worker and users seemed to be buzzing along happily. Nice, I say to myself, this is going to be a good day.

Boss: Hey, can you move so n’ so’s network cable to a different switch?

Me: Sure.

Me: Unplug cable, and I have now taken down the network. OOPS. I am now watching my boss crawl around the spaghetti mess that makes up our rack listening to “how in the hell…”

It’s my birthday, payday, I haven’t had a single ticket to work on so far, and we’re getting lunch catered because a VP (one of my biggest PITAs) is retiring today. Pretty good Friday so far.

I’ve definitely done that before. I’ve learned that if there is ever a loose cable connection you will find it or it will find you when you enter the network closet during business hours.

Came in today to find that all our invoices printed this week have come out funky and almost unreadable, after a server upgrade (no more 2003, yay!). It took four days for me to be notified. Now we have deliveries being rejected by clients.

Note: TS Easy Printing is a wonderful thing… unless you use dot matrix printers.

Well I have completed a full week at my new job in Nashville,TN and loving the new environment, my wife flew in last night w/ our cat (still wanna know if he gets air miles too) since we are in transition from one state to another and she wont be with me full time until January after our house closes… between her crying randomly and dare not ask anything about back home …!

The down side to this the movers haven’t contacted us of when they are delivering our items to our new apartment since they were picked up a week ago from our old place, last night sleeping on a air mattress was a pain!

hopefully they get back to us very soon!

I hate it when you unplug a cable and the token falls out like that. Those things are a pain to find and if your system uses compression it may be downright microscopic. Best of luck to your boss in finding it.

After a week of constant issues while being the only member of IT, this morning has been fairly quiet. Also another department is having lunch delivered for me today so I think things are finally looking up. Also I’m not on call tomorrow so that’s good. OCC audit starts Monday though so the good times are destined to not last.
