My hard drive crashed and I needed to reinstall the operating system and all applications including spiceworks. I am trying to get spiceworks back to where I was. I had spiceworks running on another backup laptop and the two applications are different. The one on the reinstalled hard drive is showing minimal information.

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

If you already had Spiceworks running on that laptop, I would uninstall it, rename the C:\\Program Files\\Spiceworks folder to C:\\Program Files\\SpiceworksOLD & then install the latest version. Then copy over the DB & the Data folder before you run it the first time.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

Do you have a backup of Spiceworks from your old computer? You would just need the DB & Data folder from that hard drive. Then you can just do a clean install of Spiceworks but don’t start the services yet. Once you have done that, then copy the DB & the Data folder to C:\\Program Files\\Spiceworks & then start it up & you should be good.

{"@type":"Person
rustypage9875
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/rustypage9875"}},{"@type":"Answer

If you copy the data folder from the laptop, it will show you the same information as the laptop. You need to have a backup of Spiceworks from the old system. Do you have the auto backup setup? If the HDD is still usable, not clicking, you may be able to install it in a second system or use a USB external adapter and get teh needed data.

To ensure that I eliminate the HDD crash on my Spiceworks server that I frankenstiened together I setup a 4HDD RAID 5 drive array. I have the the auto backup setup for 06:00 with a scheduled task to copy the backup directory to my network NAS and to my desktop. I lost my first install when the HDD decided to do a very convincing imitation of a shipmunk.

{"@type":"Person
eugeneholt5462
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/eugeneholt5462"}},{"@type":"Answer

Ahhhhh.

I copied the db and data folders from my backup laptop on to the lazarus laptop and can now see all the dashboard settings and inventory that I had. I’ll continue to check it out and compare to the backup to make sure all is back.

Thanks!!!

{"@type":"Person
kevinwhitehead7865
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/kevinwhitehead7865"}},{"@type":"Answer
