Hi there,

My Spiceworks server (Runnning win XP) crashed and windows will not boot anymore (After many attempts at repairing windows).

So I took the drive and connected it to another PC and now I am able to see/copy the program files\spiceworks folder.

How can I restore the data onto a new machine?

Here’s a helpful link on moving Spiceworks to another PC: http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/295-move-your-spiceworks-installation

plus you need to get off XP anyway.

these instructions require a backup.

I don’t think I have a backup.

it’ll normally do a backup of itself every night - check the program files\spiceworks\backup folder.

if the info’s that important why arent you backing this up anyway?

Martin,

Believe me when I tell you, I now know how valuable a backup is.

But I still want to see if there’s a way to salvage any data.

I’ve searched through the old hard drive and found no such folder program files\spiceworks\backup

Does that mean that there’s no way to restore the data? I have the DB folder and the DATA folder.

you could email support@spiceworks.com but the normal how-to starts with a a backup.

Normally this happens everyday by default so someone took a decision to turn this off at some point. Of course you then to hoover this up in your normal tape/disk based backup tool as well for protection against disk failure etc.
