i just thought id share cause users never cease to amaze me. so i just got a call that someone cant printer to thier printer. so i remote into thier PC and check the driver, which was good, check the port, that was wrong so i correct the IP. i then check out the queue and thats when i was kind of lost for words…

you all have problably had the user that has an issue with someone for a month or two but never called IT and you find out its been 2 months and your like um why didnt you call us, its like a 2 minute fix…

well this user has plenty of stuff in her queue as one might expect because the logical thing to do if something doesnt print is mash on the print button a few more times… well i looked at the dates and she had things that have been sitting in her queue since June… wait for it… wait for it… 2010…

I’d say she doesnt really need a printer then… time to move that sucker to a better home

Wow, I’ve seen dozens of jobs in the queues on calls like this, but never something over two years old!

I agree - sounds like that printer should be re-assigned. Maybe that’ll teach them to contact the help desk a little sooner

Cool story bro. My favorite are the vague ones like “We’re having network issues over here!!” when they had no mapped network drives and knew that I’d tell them to reboot since they said “you had me reboot last time this happened i’ll do that while I wait for you to look to see if my laptop is on the network” frustrates me to no end…

Oh well, we can always laugh at it since it happened in the past. We’re here to service our users!

So she’s easy going then?

My users can’t print they are sending me a ticket right away…all while smashing that print button on the off chance the first 200 times it not working was a fluke. (but god forbid the fix is a reboot)

its a department printer so there are alot of people using it…

That is pretty epic. *Face palm

My users say “Well I would think…” and I always stop them and say “thats your problem, you THINK you know what the issue is”. I ALWAYS compare having a computer/printing issues is much like having a car issue. take it to someone who knows what they are doing instead ASSUMING you know whats wrong with it.

Yes but she never calls and asks you to change her print cartridge.

she didn’t think, hey, you can print but I can’t? time to call IT.

/facepalm

Wow… Yep, I think she doesn’t need a printer all to herself.

hands Gary some punctuation

Who? The printer or the lady?

Most definitely… there are a few people that surprise me that they can hold full conversations.

LOL! Users!

It must take her a loooooooong time to walk over to the printer to find out if something did/didn’t print …

Maybe she has a printer monkey who has been on vacation for three years.

Isn’t “printer monkey” the technical term for “print spool”?

I’ve found stalled printer queues with crap that was added over a year before, but nowhere near this far back. I’d say you have a user worthy of a football helmet and short bus pass.

I’ll say again, the crystal ball in IT is still broken and if you don’t tell us something isn’t working, we won’t fix it.

A two year old queue…nice to know Windows will accommodate such a feature…
