Spiceworks has an advertiser that is planning to launch a contest they will run in our community. The plan is each Spiceworks user that participates in the contest will get a AMEX gift card and will be entered in a raffle for the “main giveaway” prize. So the big question is what is a cool item they should give away for the main prize that people would find intriguing? Budget for the prize is ~$500 - $1000.

Give us some good suggestions please so we can make this contest more interesting.

Thanks

Kevin

Will the contest be available to those of us who don’t live in the USA?

Possible prizes could include an iphone or Blackberry. How about a notebook computer?

Notebook is good, ebook is nice

why not a cash prize? or a holiday to meet the spiceworks team? the 24 SSD RAID PC?

Pool an Air Hockey Table

a macbook

an apple tablet (if it will come out :-))

an iphone + itunes giftcard

a free one or two year subscription for either technet or MSDN

a big software package (e.g. Server 2008 R2 10 Windows 7 clients)

a giftcard to use in apple- or microsoft stores or at amazon

a free weekend travel (e.g. London for U.S. Spiceworkers or New York for europeans…)

a free one year´s stock for whiskey and beer of one´s choice worth 1000$

a big party for the winner and his friends

May the Force be with you

A gaming laptop with a Spiceworks-themed interface or custom pattern on the lid (HP does this). That would be awesome.

XBox 360 with similar custom themed lid and XBox Live points.

I think a mix of some gadgety tech with Spiceworks custom branding would be the key. That would generate a lot more interest, I think.

Hey! I’m serious!

Who wouldn’t want a baby bunny?

…probably someone who is a work-at-home bunny, and has had to deal with her loud sextuplets all day long and would just kill to have a nap, just one nap for a few minutes of peace and quiet while the husband is working two bunny jobs to keep the carrots and lettuce rolling in…that’s who!

@ Rob…sound pretty serious :).

Prize ideas - paid trip to spiceworksworld

Also where are the details for this contest what are you going to make us do :)?

True.

But then if it was all branded-up, spiceworks style - with orange fur and a little logo’d cape, then she’d want it.

Well, you are right about that…Heck, I’d want one. Good idea  Don’t tell PETA!

@Ivan - the customer has initially planned this for US only, but based on your question we are asking if they are open to adding European countries as well.

Thanks to all for the great ideas. We hope to have the details worked out early next week and get it launched soon. The contest runs through December so we didn’t consider free pass/travel to Spiceworld.

Please share any other great ideas, our customer is closing following the thread to decide how to proceed with the contest.

I’ll post more information to the thread once we are locked in and ready to start the contest.

I’d recommend a couple of netbooks. Actually, you could get three decently spec’d netbooks in for about $1000. This gives more than one person a chance to win, so you are likely to get higher participation. Netbooks are one of the hotter items at the moment, they will very likely be used and IT guys love gadgets.

Other options that might get people drooling…

Some SSDs.

Game Consoles

Popcorn Hours (Networked media players that will play EVERYTHING you can throw at them). Again, you could give away five of them for about $1000.

Oh last but not least - one of those Archos 5 Internet tablets . Very cool stuff.

Gift certificates for http://www.thinkgeek.com

Ok, I’m done for now.

T-shirts, caps, you can never go wrong with them
