Hi. I have quite a few windows laptop users. When they are in the office (company netwowrk) the scan of the laptop works fine. But many of those users work in home office most of the time and are connected to the company network using VPN.

What is the recommended setup? Installing the remote agant of those laptops or scan them through the vpn tunnel?

Many thanks for your suggestion!

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

We just pushed out the spiceworks scanner through AD to capture everyone’s devices.

{"@type":"Person
spicyjoseph
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/spicyjoseph"}},{"@type":"Answer

Joe makes a good point.

Also might want to check and see what subnet the vpn users are on and set spiceworks to scan that

{"@type":"Person
jkzfixme
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/jkzfixme"}},{"@type":"Answer

thanks for your reply! yes, scanning the VPN subnet was the first thing I wanted to do but the scan doesn’t see any laptops. I assume it must be a firewall issue. as I understand port 135 and 445 must be open for that. I can ping the laptops in the VPN subnet from my SpiceWorks server.

{"@type":"Person
erichaschenberger
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/erichaschenberger"}},{"@type":"Answer

Sounds like a firewall issue - does the local host block incound connection requests?

{"@type":"Person
DoctorDNS
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/DoctorDNS"}}]}}
