The server is running CentOS 6.0 and the spicework scanner cannot detect the server. I found the server in the unknown device category. I opened the SSH port in the linux firewall. Please help me to solve this problem! Thanks in advance!

Once SSH is opened you will also need to enter root credentials into SpiceWorks, make sure that root’s default Shell is BASH and make sure that root can log in remotely directly (i.e. no sudo system required.)

Nothing to add, scan via SSH.
Maybe set “Scan Linux software” to “true” in Settings/Network Scan/Show Additional Settings.
I set the sshd_config file to allow root to login remotely, but it still won’t work.
The spicework replied the error
"No open ports for this device were found to be responding.
This typically means that there is a firewall or permission issue preventing remote access."

Try to increase the SSH timeout - Settings/Network Scan/Show Additional Settings → “SSH connection timeout” I have it at “120” (value in seconds).
I set it to 120 second, but it’s still not worked

Can you confirm that you are able to connect via SSH from your SW server using a tool like putty?
Yes, I can login as root remotely by Putty SSH

Follow at least #1 - #3 of this how-to: Troubleshooting Spiceworks Inventory Inconsistencies - Spiceworks Community and restart your SW.
Please create now a new scan range for this server at the very top and assign only the SSH scan account with it. Scan this range. What do you get?
I followed #1 - 3 steps to change the parameters, but it still don’t work after restart SW.
The server is still classified as Unknown, but the error “No open ports for this device were found to be responding. This typically means that there is a firewall or permission issue preventing remote access.” is gone! Do I need to change any things? Thanks!

Could you please delete this machine from the inventory? If yes, do it and let it redetect.
I removed it from inventory, but SW couldn’t detect this server.

OK, follow this:
- stop SW
- copy C:\Program Files (x86)\Spiceworks\data\kuids.yaml to C:\Program Files (x86)\Spiceworks\data\kuids.yaml.orig to have a backup if something goes wrong
- open C:\Program Files (x86)\Spiceworks\data\kuids.yaml with editor/notepad
- delete all content in it (so you have an empty file) and save the file
- restart SW and start a new scan
Does SW redetect this machine? If yes - thats all.
If no - follow this:
-
stop SW
-
delete C:\Program Files (x86)\Spiceworks\data\kuids.yaml
-
rename C:\Program Files (x86)\Spiceworks\data\kuids.yaml.orig to C:\Program Files (x86)\Spiceworks\data\kuids.yaml
-
start SW
