Hello,

I have a lot of linux clients running mostly on 14.04 now, I want to scan with sw using ssh.

Therefore I created a special user helpdesk on all my clients and put it in the sudo group.

After I’ve installed the open-ssh server and validated with putty to login from sw server, working fine.

However sw is not scanning that machines using the helpdesk account.

I don’t want to give root access to the ssh. What the right/best/propper solution?

Hey pelzi71

I think this might help you out:

http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/41368-configure-linux-unix-devices-to-allow-spiceworks-scans

Read it over and give it a shot!

I did exactly what is written in this thread. It is not working on my clients. I see that the server can login with the given credentials via ssh. But in the inventory the client is still unknown Windows Device.

There is a sub-article “Fully Scan Linux Device With Non-Root User” linked at the end of the thread. I also tried that with no success. Linux still wants a password running dmidecode on my system with the “scan-user”.

Hmm… I’d recommend getting your logs together and sent in to us so we can get a look at what’s going on.
