I used to get quarterly calls to discuss my upcoming budgets, potential hardware purchases, etc. But over the last year, it’s gone from once a quarter to once a month, then once a week, now to several times a week, and they are calling several other employees outside of IT in our company. I keep telling them to stop calling so often, and recently asked them to just stop calling us at all.

This hasn’t dissuaded them in the slightest.

They keep telling me that they “put a note on our file” to stop calling, right before they proceed to try to tell me about their latest and greatest servers. I’ve gotten to the point of just hanging up on them now, but it’s annoying, incredibly annoying.

I can’t help but wonder how harassing your customers to the point of pushing them away is a good business model because I will not ever buy HP again after this. My Dell rep is far better, and that’s saying something because Dell really sucks at customer service.

Thanks for putting up with my rant.

3 Spice ups

Before I jump in to help, can you clarify whether it’s HP, HPE, or both? We are separate companies and we don’t do any co-marketing or use call centers jointly. So please clarify if you’re getting calls from both companies and lumping them together or from one.

I’m honestly not sure anymore. If it helps, these have been calls I’ve received ever since buying a $12k server a few years ago.

Here’s a few things (assuming it’s HPE contacting you):

  • I don’t believe you get calls based on a purchase. Maybe, but I don’t think so.
  • HPE invests heavily in SpiceWorks marketing. If you attend something we sponsored (like a webcast), the terms say something about you are giving us permission to call you. There’s now way to avoid that other than to not join sponsored content on SpiceWorks.
  • Last I got involved with something like this, there are multiple call centers that HPE uses and they didn’t share information. So you might tell one caller to not call you but that doesn’t replicate to the other groups. And every time you join a sponsored event, or enter a contest, you have agreed to let us contact you. So you probably are being contacted by multiple groups.

That said, I TOTALLY understand your frustration with this. I’m personally frustrated that it happens. I’ll reach out to the folks who manage this stuff and let them know - seems like something I jump into about once or twice a year. Please send me a PM with your name, company name, and phone number and I’ll do what I can to get them to stop calling you.
