I installed Spiceworks 7.5 on-premises. After installation, when I log in, it asks for proxy settings. Why?

Because it hasn’t been supported for over 2 years.

The application can no longer reach the servers on the backend servers as they do not exist.

Welcome to the Spiceworks community and congratulations on your first post, @spiceuser-c2ro.

As Rod-IT states, the on-premises product has not been supported for quite some time.

You may have obtained the installer from an old source since it hasn’t, or at least shouldn’t, be available for download from Spiceworks directly. New installations will not work to my knowledge or people have not yet found a workaround to installing the product. Generally speaking, only restores may be working since existing users within the local database will be cached.

The next iteration of Spiceworks Desktop is the Cloud Help Desk. View its highlights here.

Where did you even find an installer for the on-prem version??

Probably from that same web site where you can download more RAM.

My follow-up to their response would be a suggestion to do a full system AV scan!!

The downloads are still available on the internet. (I am intentionally turning off the links.)

{edit} Or someone could have passed along a link to an old installer I have stored on my Google Drive. :innocent:

Yeah…I’d never download anything from any of those sites…not a single one looks legit!

MajorGeeks is well known, at least to me. I’ve used it many times with success. I would trust it. But it’s also curated and, like any site, could be infiltrated with bad software.

The download site list was not complete, just a selected few from my quick and dirty research. So OP could have legitimately downloaded what they thought was applicable software for their environment despite the software being completely outdated. Many of these sites keep their downloads available in perpetuity. (And speaking from experience, sometimes there is a need to go back 20 years for some kind of utility.)

In this case, please refrain from using the Spiceworks Desktop product and migrate to something else. If you would like to continue with Spiceworks, use the current Spiceworks Cloud Help Desk.

Same here.

Or maybe he’d downloaded it at some other time and had it on a drive somewhere?

Man, give some of you Occam’s Razor and you’d cut off a hand.
