People actually put e-mails in their deleted items folders to store them.

Yep, I’ve experienced that as well.

We get that all the time… rather than make other folders they allow thier inbox to get filled with junk mail and fill the deleted items with the good stuff!

Only two things are unlimited - stupidity, and the facepalms caused by stupidity.
And even the second might not be if our collective arms get too tired.

Hmm, storing items in the deleted folder. Guess hitting the button that says “empty deleted items” folder is never touched.

Yeah, it’s true.

Seen this several times. We auto empty the deleted items folder every 24 hours here so it only happens when new employees start.

Adam2595 our CFO opens and saves each individual email to our file server. Than deletes them out of his outlook.

I always tell them that anything in the deleted box is considered trash. if i need to clean up space on your mailbox that is my first target. especially if it is 3GB of you mailbox limit.
Do not ever save items there as it can be deleted at any time. Is my lesson to the users on that.
If you are on exchange see if they are in the deleted recovery box??? You can sometimes recover the majority of it.

Oh it’s totally true. I had a user who did this. Then when we moved away from Exchange to Google Apps and suddenly it only kept 30 days of deleted items, she totally flipped out. I had suggested to her previously that storing items in her deleted items folder was not the best choice, but I guess she learned her lesson the hard way.

I had this happen at my last job where user’s mailboxes were limited to 2gb. They figured out that email in the deleted items doesnt count towards your total mailbox size.
So we implemented a rule that emptied their deleted items every 15 days

Apologies for the profanity, but what the FUCK?!? How do these people manage to do anything?

That is funny. Sadly far more common of an indicator of many end users, but funny non the less.
I wonder sometimes how these people manage to get to work each morning.
