Hello from southern germany.

My name is Frank - better known as “Franklyn the IT-dinosaur” because i work in IT since the early 1980s. Starting in January 02 I now work for a small to mid-sized Industry company in the Black Forrest (southern Germany) and i am integrating Spiceworks into my daily business as the responsible IT-guy of this company (one man show).

My private life is devoted to my family (wife, 3 children, 2 dogs and a cat) and i go Mountainbiking in Black Forrest, Swiss- and Austrian-Alps and sailing on lake Constance.

I always like to learn and contribute to a community like this one.

My name is Stephen, I dabbled computers for the last 18 years, but haven’t done anything major. I just enrolled in college last year to earn my AAS in Cyber Security; I am in my second semester. I am taking all of my classes online, which makes it hard keeping the knowledge in my head when not talking to others about what I am learning. I also need to find ways to implement what I am learning in the real world, so my plans are to build a lab with a server and play around with that. Some goals I have are to join the Air Force Reserves, to help get my networking career started, and to complete my Associates degree.

Good to hear this. I have fifteen years of experience on computer repairs, software installation, OS issues and lately website development with the use of HTML, PHP WordPress and his likes but, mostly practical knowledge maybe because I work with like minds. I support your idea on starting with setting up some servers and playing around it. You’ll get help in this forum.

I’m still learning although luckily, I know more than the end users (so far). My favorite thing is training. Its all in the training baby! If a developer can’t get it right, then the training will make it all right!

Some of my made up tech sayings:

Word: “Be in the paragraph” (to change formatting) - Namaste

Word: “Select to affect” (the font formatting)

“Is the computer making you play Where’s Waldo?” (can’t find a function/feature key which is right in front of them)

Do what Ben Franklin always used to say, “Save and Save Often”

Welcome Anita! I love the Where’s Waldo reference. Saying something like “Yeah, sometimes the keyboard can seem like Where’s Waldo” is a much better thing to say than “It’s right THERE, George.” Seems kinder and like you are sharing the experience of frustration rather than mocking.
