Hello.

Is it appropriate to make some sort of introduction before posting to forums? If so, I am not sure where to do that, and I’d like to be mindful of local etiquette.

Also, I would like tips about how to best take advantage of what is available on the Spiceworks site. I am open to a link to an article or FAQ.

I suggest filling out your profile and requesting a non-default username so we can get to know you a little better.

(see What profile fields do I need to fill out for 100 points? for the fields required to get a bonus 100 points)

Great to meet you and welcome to the best IT Community on the internet (granted, I’m super biased… but it really is great!)! Great info and suggestions above but let me add mine to the list. I’d recommend checking out our Field Guide:

https://community.spiceworks.com/field-guide/getting-started

It’s a quick ‘getting started’ section that will give you a better lay of the land.

That said, if you have any questions or looking for assistance, just ask. We’re all here to help each other out.

Typically it’s customary to go into a forum at random, usually the Spiceworks Support forum (which is intended for the product, not the site) and let your first post be something like …

“Hi does anybody know where to find cheap graphics cards and RGB strips??”

It’s part of our vetting process.

Oh and we don’t have CAPTCHA’s here so instead we ask that you post any question you can think of and when the user @dimforest posts, you mark his post as Best Answer. This validates that you are in fact human and operating at a high level.

The sarcasm is strong in this one. That or you have a big ego, I haven’t figured out which one it is yet.

It also validates Dim’s sense of self-worth, so there’s that, too.

In order to avoid the anger of the gods, you must do the following:

  1. Wish @sean-spiceworks a happy birthday at least once per month, he really loves people who remember his birthday.

  2. One gallon of full fat mayo must be sent to spice member @dimforest . Just don’t ask what he does with it, the last member that did gets out of the psych ward next week.

  3. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, two Tsp of hot sauce and a shot of rum.

Welcome to the Zoo.
